Nerdfighters

Last year, there was a 50 book challenge on this very ning, but sadly, I discovered it too late to really participate. The Good News was that I'd already read 160 books, so I'd completed the challenge. And as I read through the comments, I noted that there were several people who thought 50 books in one year was too easy. So this year, I present a challenge: Read at least 100 books by the end of 2010.

There are no real rules for the challenge, but I always have some rules for myself, so if you're looking for some structure, here they are:
No re-reads. I don't list the same book twice. If I've read it before, in a previous year, then that's ok. But I don't like seeing the same book more than once on one list.
No cheating. If I read a book halfway, or skip through spots, then it's not allowed to count. Because I haven't read an entire book.
No picture books. I never list picture books, even though I read several of them, usually to my sisters. I don't list them because they hardly contain more text than one of those phone company mailers that at&t sends out every other day.

Simple, really. And if you're thinking that 100 may be too difficult, then think of it this way:
That's three days per book, with 65 free days, for things like work and vacations (although if you're anything like me, you look at a vacation as an opportunity to read more then usual.), and sick days, and anything else that you can think of.
And even if you only have one hour to read every day, if you average, say, 90 pages an hour, then you can read roughly a 270 page book in three days. Which, admittedly, isn't huge, but that's still a fairly susbtantial book.

So go, get started! Post here everytime you've read a new book. Keep a list, and when you reach a milestone (25..50..100...1..) let us know! Tell us if you've read a great book that everyone should know about, or if you've read a terrible book everyone should avoid eye-contact with.

Good Luck, and happy reading!
(at first I accidentally typed 'lick' instead of 'luck'. I was amused.)

EDITS:

-BOOKS MAY BE WRITTEN IN ANY LANGUAGE. A book is a book, no matter what country it comes from.

-PLAYS ARE ACCEPTABLE. Any play goes. Although obviously you can't just go see it. That's like watching the HP movies and then calling yourself a Potterhead.

-GRAPHIC NOVELS COUNT. They're not picture books, because they have more than 5 words a page.
Some people are counting them as half of a book, so that works too :D

Hey you! (Yes. YOU.)

So, I reached a 10-book milestone now.

1. HP and Half Blood Prince, J.K Rowling (reread from past year)
2. HP and Deathly Hallows, J.K Rowling (reread from past year)
3. HP and Order of the Phoenix, J.K Rowling (reread from past year)
4. Geektastic, many different authors.
5. Pretty Things, Sarra Manning. (reread from past year)
6. Percy Jackson, Lightning Thief (reread from past year) (READ IN ONE DAY)
7. Looking For Alaska, John Green.
8. I Was A Non-Blonde Cheerleader, Kieran Scott.
9. The Straight Road To Kylie, Nico Medina (reread from past year)
10. Pulling Princes, Tyne O'Connell (reread from past year).
I'm up to 15 books now :)

13. From Baghdad, With Love: A Marine, the War, and a Dog Named Lava by Jay Kopelman & Melinda Roth
14. One of Those Hideous Books Where the Mother Dies by Sonya Sones
15. From Baghdad to America: Life Lessons from a Dog Named Lava by Jay Kopelman
17 and 18. The Ruby Knight; the Sapphire Rose by David Eddings: These two books round out the Elenium Trilogy. They were pretty good I guess. My head says that they were fun and well written but my gut says that I didn't like them. Or maybe it's the other way around, I don't know. Any way you look at it, I feel like I should have enjoyed it more than I did, or maybe there is some kind of after-taste that I don't like.

19. 20. and 21. Omnivore; Orn; and OX by Piers Anthony: Another trilogy, this one I found bound into one massive volume and entitled "Of Man and Manta; A huge adventure of time, space, and mystery". This set was definitely good! Some of the science feels shaky to me, especially since I don't buy evolution at all, but even so I fully enjoyed these books. The third one I read in a single marathon stretch. I simply could not put it down! Good books, and I don't want to give anything away, so I won't say much more, but I will say this: while full of action, the author does include flowery descriptions and occasionally long winded diatribes, so if this annoys you, read at your peril. I personally found it vivid, fascinating, and engrossing.
1. Impossible -Nancy Werlin

3. Shiver- Maggie Stiefvater
4. Confessions of a Serial Kisser- Wendelin Van Draanen

34. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman - it's Neil Gaiman, how could I not love it?!
i never get more than a third through with gaiman books. allthough i must add that everytime i start one something that i have been desperate for comes in and i can't stop myself from reading thast instead.
i have given up on gaiman.
Really? How bizarre. I start a Neil Gaiman book and can never put it down..
i supose they are just not for me or not now. i have had books for a decate and then the day came when the time was right.
I so want to do this! I know it's already March, but I really think I can do it, even with my super busy schedule.

16. The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt (reread)
