Nerdfighters

After watching John's latest video on tiggerrific orange ruins, it got me to thinking: "How many ways are things pronounced?" (He pronounced "orange" like "or-nge", while I pronounce it like "aw-ran-ge", and my Oma (german grandmother) pronounces it like or-ahnge.) Nerdfighters live all around the world and in many different regions, so there must be a million different ways we pronounce words.

I can't think of any other words though.

How do you pronounce the word "orange", and what other words can you think of?

I say or-nge!
People make fun of me because of the was I say "capillary" or "corollary"
I say cuh-pil-ler-ee. Everyone else says cah-puh-ler-ee.
And I say cuh-ro-ler-ee, and everyone else says kor-uh-ler-ee

And then they make fun of me and try to correct my pronunciation... :)

That is definitely a nerdfighterly thing to realize... I would very much like to hear more of this conversation concerning blood vessels.

I pronounce orange as "or-nge". I also pronounce crayon as "crown" and it sounds odd to me when people pronounce it cra-yon. I think that's a Maryland thing though!

Sounds like you may be a fellow Baltimoron.... I recanize that accent! ;-D

Although I actually say ahr-ange, due to my mother having one parent from Britain (Wales), and my dad being from upstate New York.

I know that a really common one is the tom-A-to and tom-ah-to.
But I say the word 'horrible' differently, or at least my friends say so.
I say it hor-a-ble and they say har-i-ble.

I say hor-i-ble or hor-a-ble, I don't get where they'd get the "ar" sound from, lol.

I think it's a long "a," like in "car." I've heard people with northeastern accents say "horrible" like that before.

I say hor-a-ble. I haven't met anyone who says it any differently, or at least we didn't have a conversation about anything particularly horrible. :)

I say it o-ringe... is that weird? I don't think so... I think it might be a brit thing...
People laugh at me in biology because I pronounce "metaphase" meet-a-phase and they say mett-a-phase.
Then there's the typical ones; bath, grass etc. I say them bar-th and gr-ar-ss, and others say baa-th and gr-aa-ss.

I say o-ringe, bar-th and gra-ar-ss! Are you in the south like me or originally from the south or something?

I say "or-nge," but I have a pretty generic American accent, as far as accents go. And I say cray-on. And tom-A-to. A fun one where I live is when people say "warsh" instead of "wash." I think it sounds a bit uneducated, to be honest, but that's just my opinion. And I know a girl who says "birfday" instead of "birthday." She can't help it. It's somewhat amusing.

Then there's the fact that I have a slight lisp, so I always pronounce things unusually...

I think I say it like oar - inge
but I dunno. I have a hard time listening to myself talk. :-P
