Nerdfighters

After watching John's latest video on tiggerrific orange ruins, it got me to thinking: "How many ways are things pronounced?" (He pronounced "orange" like "or-nge", while I pronounce it like "aw-ran-ge", and my Oma (german grandmother) pronounces it like or-ahnge.) Nerdfighters live all around the world and in many different regions, so there must be a million different ways we pronounce words.

I can't think of any other words though.

How do you pronounce the word "orange", and what other words can you think of?

Are you from the West Coast? My nieces lived in Seattle for years, and that's how they say it.

I also noticed that, and started saying it aloud to myself just to see how it sounded when I said it. I say it like "or-enge". I always thought that was just how you say it.

I say or-ange (I think... hard to say now that I'm thinking about it)

There's either pronounced ee-ther or I-ther (I pronounce the I, no idea why!)

A lot of food related ones (no joke, my friends and I argue over these ones all the time!):
Um I know some people who say pasta as Paw-sta and some who say past-a
And Milk I've heard as Mill-k and Mel-k
Bagel is funny too, I've friends who say Bay-gel and friends who say Baa (yes, like sheep) -gel
Scones as Se-coo-nes or Se-caw-ens

Thats all I can think of at the mo' =) I'll add more if I think of any, this stuff I always find fasinating!

Here's my pronunciations:
ee-ther
Pah-sta
Mill-k
Bay-gil (lol @ baa-gel)
Sk-owns

What part of the world are you in? I'm from Massachusettts, so around here we get a bit of the "pahk the cah in Hahvad Yahd" kind of thing going on. Although we kinda make fun of the really boston accented people, cause it sounds funny. ;)

I have a hard time differentiating between saying three and free, I don't know if that's an accent thing or not.

I saw or-nge. Here in SJ we say wudder instead of wAHter for water.

OH.. My boyfriend's mom says know like "nee-oo". It's enteretaining.

Oh! How many of you say pillow like "pellow"? I say pillow, but a lot of people say "pellow" where I live. I'm not from here, so I always just thought that was why I say it different from everyone else.

I say pillow "pellow" and I also used to say "melk" instead of milk. Where are you from? I am from Nevada.

My husband says "pellow"! Drives me up the wall, because I say "pillow." He also says "Ellinois" instead of "Illinois" and "Alls you have to do is..."

I put up with it because it's not worth trying to correct him every time, but I still cringe a little.

I say or-inge! Britishism.
I also say pillow.
Some people say "toothbrush" like "tuthbrush", making the two "oo"s really short! I don't understand that.

I pronounce wash like war-sh and rinse like wrench.

I got it from my mom and she is from PA so that might be it.

My dad say warsh also. He also says far-ty (fourty) far (four) and har-se(horse) He's from St. Louis

I say ornj.
I also say SEE-ment in stead of suh-MENT (cement).
Sometimes I say worsh instead of wahsh (wash).
If you're from Kansas, and talking about the Arkansas River, it's ahr-KAN-zass, not ARK-an-saw.
And I say sheet-soo instead of shit-zoo (Shih Tsu).
