Nerdfighters

In high school, no girl wants to be labeled a slut. What do you think about the concept of sluttiness? What do you think makes somebody a slut? Do you think it's okay to consider people sluts? Do you think the term is overused? Do you think that how you dress contributes to your sluttiness? Do you support people who have been labeled sluts? Would you befriend one? Can one be a slutty Nerdfighter?

Pretty much, talk about anything related to "sluttiness".

What's so bad about judging people as long as you keep your judgment out of their lives? Thinking, "Holy crap, she's a slutty hooker," is no worse than thinking "Holy crap, your sweater is hideous." Just thinking that somebody is slutty and thinking that their job isn't respectable isn't going to hurt them. Judging is a natural thing to do. If we don't judge people by their actions, what else do we have to base our opinions of them off of? Would you rather have me judge by something shallow like looks? I think that prostitution should be legal, that people who sleep around or wear revealing clothes should be respected in the law (ie wearing a short dress doesn't mean it's ok to rape you), and that assaulting/harassing somebody simply because of them being a prostitute or plain old slutty is messed up. Still, I think that sleeping around constantly and being very open about it, no matter what your gender is, is improper. You should be allowed to do it, but I'm going to have my opinions on it.
I find it funny that girls are labelled sluts, whereas boys are labelled a "womaniser" or a "charmer". Also the 'bad boys' tend to intrigue the 'good girls', whereas the apparently 'slutty girls' are side-lined due to their social tag. Funny huh.
I really don't see where guys get away with sleeping around. I have never seen it happen without blowing up in the guy's face. I don't view "slut" as a sexist term at all, even though it usually is applied to women. Many people I know attach it to a guy. Once a guy is labeled a "playa" or a "collector" no girl will want to associate herself with him, unless she too wants a very casual relationship and just plain doesn't care about fidelity.
If a guy's hot, somegirls will still go out with him, even though he's a player...
:(
Same thing goes for a girl, though.
In high school, no girl wants to be labeled a slut (1). What do you think about the concept of sluttiness (2)? What do you think makes somebody a slut (3)? Do you think it's okay to consider people sluts (4)? Do you think the term is overused (5)? Do you think that how you dress contributes to your sluttiness (6)? Do you support people who have been labeled sluts (7)? Would you befriend one (8)? Can one be a slutty Nerdfighter (9)?

1) acually, i think some (idiots) do.... :/
2) its really distastful for girls to be like that...but i do think some are also unfairly labled
3) when a girl is with a lot of guys, is really promiscuous, and cheats (more than once...sometimes just once)
4) If they are, than sure. However, some girls get labled without a second chance, or second thought. No one should be called a slut, but if the girl is acting with the definition of "sluttiness", then she can be called that...just not bullied.
5) yes
6) definitly
7) depends if they are or not...
8) I have some friends that have been labled...one of my best friends was labled one once for someting that happened (it wasn't was it was made out to be)
9) yes, but hopefully there wont be...
Now that I think about it, sluttiness isn't really about sleeping around or not. It's more about being so open about your relationships, not having any idea what "TMI" is, etc. If you have 8 bed-buddies and are at least discrete about it, I honestly don't find anything really messed up about that. But if you go around bragging about how you got into Cameron's, Dylan's, Alex's, Sam's, and Taylor's pants, I'm gonna judge you. But I'd judge you if all you did was talk about how you love having sex with your one partner and would probably not want to hang out with you all that often. There's no reason why I should know how many people you've slept with, especially if I don't even know you personally.
Whelp, this is one for the Moral Guardians to deliberately not read and explode in a flash of repression and self-righteousness...

I think the term is fundamentally damaging -- it is (imo, ymmv, etc) an anti-feminist concept made up by men who do not want independednt sexual expression in women. Whilst this may not be the actual thinking behind the use of the term in hig-school, it follows that the girls in question will be even more damaged by it - some may become 'sex-phobic', and others may become hypersexualised. Both are bad options.

I know it'll be hard to get a bunch of sniggering high-school teenagers to try and have a mature attitude towards sex in general and sexual freedom in particular, but as someone with plenty of friends branded by the term during their school careers, I know (or at least like to think I know) how damaging to a girl's self image it can be.
I think it's a term people use to make it seem the guy that slept with the girl seem bad. Like a girl sleeps with a guy, and everyone is jealous their not having sex, so they say the girls easy, and it's no impressive feat, but by saying she's easy, she also becomes undesirable, so people don't feel inferior to the people having sex.
It's sad that the girl and not the guy is targeted, but that's mostly because guys have a higher sex drive, so they want it to seem like they could have had sex if they wanted, they just don't want to with an easy girl.

I don't even think of slut as a derogatory term to tell you the truth. To me a slut is just someone that has a lot of casual sex with a lot of different partners. I honestly could care less if a girl is a slut, in fact I have a lot of close friends that are quite promiscuous. If you wanna sleep with someone, or a lot of someones, power to you. It's sluts that have no conscience that really grind my gears. Like girls who constantly hook up with their "best friends" boyfriend, then brag about it to whoever will listen. Sleep with whoever you want, but don't be a bitch about it.

Lady pimps is a much better term I think

Do we really even need the qualifier 'lady'? We're all pimps, men, women and children.
