I think Nerdfighter-ism goes beyond intellect. Sure, it helps, and is quite a big part of it all, but it isn't the only part of it. So being "smart" isn't the thing that has brought us here. There are lots of smart people, but what makes a nerd is his/her personality and generally being made of awesome.
