Nerdfighters

My teachers are odd. Very odd.

Today, we have to make a small poster on a Greek mythology creature, and my group got Hydra. Then I go "OMG! LOST!" and after my friend Raven drew the 9-headed snake thingy, I drew the Hydra dharma symbol on it and my social studies teacher freaked out (she watches LOST too)
Here is part of conversation:
Teacher: What is THIS?
Me: Dharma symbol...
Teacher: Who knows what that means?
Me: ...me
Teacher: You LOST *trails off*

She got mad in a way that wouldn't get me in trouble.

And I saw two of my teachers dancing together...to make fun of me...

I was in 5th grade and there was a sub named Mrs. Zemyan who was the worst sub in the world, but there was one incedent that really stuck out. I'm going to set the scene and not even comment on it.

Reading circle, my friends turn to read, he studders.

Mrs. Zemyan: Matt! Your turn, come one.

Matt: K-kkkk--kay. A-aaaa-andrew turned to look at his nn-nnnnn-nnnn -----

Mrs. Zemyan: New! Matt, the word is new.

Matt: I know. --his new pu---puppy. Its name www-wh-wh..wuh...

Mrs. Zemyan: WAS! Matt, the word is "was".

Matt: I know that. I stu-sss-stu---

Mrs. Zemyan: Matt, just read it!

Me: Stop! He studders, just stop yelling!

Mrs. Zemyan: Oh....

..... I know right?

Oh my goodness! In grade 10, we had a basketball player get hurt. He came to class and had to sit on the couch where he could prop his leg up, but not trip people in the aisles. We had a sub later in the day and she told him to sit in his seat, and he was like "this is my seat. I'm allowed to sit here". She almost wrote him up. We kept on explaining what happened and she just wouldn't hear it. I can't remember what ended up happening. I just remember it being ridiculous.

My 7th grade math teacher would randomly blurt "Peace, love, save the WHALES!" (complete with hand motions) whenever there was total silence. Awkward. Oh, he rapped too. Badly. Often.

Oh, and then there's SUBSTITUTES. In 3rd grade, this sub who was 80 and from the Deep South called us "little fat, lazy assho--whoops!"

We had a sub for Spanish class who wrote up the entire class. When my regular Spanish teacher came back she read us all the "reasons" for writing us up. (There was a full two pages, college rule.) She laughed so hard she couldn't finish the list.

Hm. My 9th grade English teacher showed us the video of her skydiving experience, which she was absolutely terrified for. Just because.

My 10th grade history teacher threw a huge textbook at my boyfriend in the middle of class. I can't remember whether or not he provoked it - they tended to goad each other a LOT in class. There were also suspicions that the teacher spiked his coffee every morning.

One of my math teachers was also really into martial arts, so he would show off every once in a while or be provoked into doing something strange, like doing knuckle push-ups on a bunch of sharp rocks.

My government teacher was probably the most eccentric (and fun) though. Every December he would have his government and history classes play a MASSIVE game of Risk....just because. It didn't really fit into any of the curriculum, but it was tradition.

He also created a mythical student named Linda Mormon, inspired by reading 1984...somehow. This was at least 10 years before I had him, but her legacy lived on. Apparently throughout the years, she has taken the SAT and ACT, and someone might've even hooked her up with a social security number. I think the most fun part was that the students all loved taking part in this secret and expanding it in unique ways. She's got Facebook now, but that's not exactly hard to do.

And the most recent eccentric teacher I had was a chemistry prof who would randomly slip in pictures of his baby in the overheads or power point presentations, just to see if we were paying attention. And to talk about how she was such a cute Japanese-American baby.

My 10th grade chemistry teacher was a total jerk (he left behind quite the legacy despite leaving the school after my year) and I could go on and on about his behavior, but I think this one fits the thread the best:

He was writing something on the board, and so we were in one of those lulls in the lecture where everyone kind of talks amongst themselves waiting for the teacher to talk again. Someone said "your mom" loud enough to be heard by most everyone and my teacher stopped writing, turned around, and said "That is not appropriate; my mom's dead." He then resumed writing on the chalkboard leaving the entire class in awkward silence.

(we debated whether he was actually telling the truth for days)

in the 5th grade, we had a sub for english.... ten minutes into the class, he put two lab tables together end to end and successfully jumped over it.... the debate lives on about whether he was really a human....

I always find it really weird when I see teachers smoking. I remember in the 6th grade there was this teacher who was giving us this whole big discussion on how smoking is bad for you, and then later on I saw her smoking. I was like wtf, mate? Hypocritical, much? Also, I saw a teacher from middle school last year smoking & it just kind of blew me out of the water...I never thought he was the type to smoke. I guess smoking isn't really odd, but for me whenever I see one smoking it's strange because you think of teachers as role models often, not as actual people.
