The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Don Quixote... please?! Read it, you won't be sorry. Or Shoot the Moon, it's pretty kick-darn.
Also, if you like politics..... Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them, I never got to finish it because my copy got shipped to El Paso... but you might like it.
The kite runner
or
generation dead
or

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Junot Díaz.

It's a fantastic book with great style telling the stories of three generations of a Dominican family...plus the third generation character is VERY nerdy...GREAT read.
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It's a great read; I loved it!
Salem's Lot by Stephen King
If you haven't read it already...you NEED to read the Hunger Games. It's excellent.
The Golden Gate by Vikram Seth. I just wrote an 8 page paper on it, and I'm not at all sick of it, so that means it's super awesome! Most delightful verse ever.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians
The Princess Bride. It is my favorite book ever.
Any of Chuck Palahniuk's books are great..though I thought Haunted dragged a bit. He's a bit dark and twisted, but he's been described as the Vonnetgut-esque.

Also, I'm reading American Nerd by Ben Nugent right now and love it!
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet. one word- hilarious
