Obviously, I hate Twilight. Everyone seems to love it so much, and I don't understand! Am I the only one?

There are many people who hate Twilight. I haven't read it, but I hear a lot about it, and I saw the movie out of curiosity. It is just bad writing. First of all, you can't really call creatures that sparkle in the sunlight a vampire. They are just glitter leeches. The inability to be exposed to sunlight is big part of what makes them vampires. Second, the characters are SO inconsistent. One minute Bella is rebellious, and hates having to live with her dad, and the next she fits in perfectly, and they have their whole system worked out. Her father starts off as an over-protective cop. Then his daughter has to flee the state and drive, alone, across country to get away from this guy, she turns up in a hospital with said guy because she "had an accident" at his hotel, and the dad still lets her go out with him? Are you serious? Did the writer like, not have a dad or something? If that was my kid, I would guess that the guy was beating my child, and get a restraining order against him. And no one understands Bella, but everyone kind of worships her. Bella sounds like a complete idiot who wallows in self-pity, and is a spoiled rotten brat. If a guy was breaking into my bedroom every night to watch me sleep and think about how much he wants to eat me, without me knowing it, I would be genuinely freaked out. I find it frightening how many girls find this creepy, obsessive, stalker thing romantic. That is not love, it's a mental/emotional disorder. And the guy is undead. He can't have babies, those parts don't work anymore! And that also makes Bella a necrophile. I don't understand how a relationship filled with necrophilia and stalking is romantic. Sounds pretty sick and twisted to me. It is an ok story if you ignore the incredibly huge holes in logic throughout the entire thing. Twilight is made of epic fail.

Okay, I'm kind of middle ground, now.
I used to love it, and there was just a few of us in my school that read it; then the film came out, and our school exploded, and the whole series has become phenomenally cliche and over-hyped.
Re-reading the books, I've noticed more and more of the same adjectives, and same old predictable plot.
Still, I'll always admit she knows how to keep you engaged.
Like I said, middle ground. Ish.

Aside from the 6th grade reading level of all four books, I'd have to say that my biggest problem with the books was the underlying message that pervaded through every chapter of the series: "If I don't have a man, I am completely useless." This was most blatant in New Moon, where [[SPOILER ALERT]] Edward leaves, and Bella basically gives up on life. I get heartbreak over your first love, but the whole book was just so ridiculous, it pissed me off. This is a horrible message to send to a generation of teenage girls who already are taught to define themselves with how they look, who they are dating, and how much like everyone else they are.
Naturally, everything turned out perfectly [actually, way too perfectly], which just made it that much worse. We all like happy endings, but I did not read all those books hoping for some flicker of drama other than "Edward's ochre eyes narrowed" just to have nothing whatsoever happen.
