Nerdfighters

According to Wikipedia...

"The film rights to the novel were acquired by Paramount Pictures in 2005. Mark Waters and Jessica Tuchinsky are set to produce the movie and Josh Schwartz (creator of The OC) will write the screenplay and direct the film. A release date is expected in 2008. The movie is believed to have been renamed to Famous Last Words."

I've just started reading it, and already it's in contention for my favorite book ever.

Thoughts? Who should play the characters?

I'm thinking Michael Cera for Pudge. He always plays these kinds of roles. And maybe Megan Fox from "Transformers" for Alaska. I don't know how good of an actor she is, though...

Got any new ideas because my brain is a bunch of Breaking Dawn mush at the moment.
Personally I hope they use a bunch of nobodies. The idea of stars for a movie just kind of makes me sad and while I'd love to see this get a ton of the spotlight. I also think it needs to retain it's down to earth feeling by having good actors that aren't known.
i dunno bout that... superman returns was a pretty big disappointment although im a huge smallville fan so that might explain it
I kind of agree. Movies often become more about the famous actors and actresses in them, rather than the story. I think thats one reason why twilight became such a big deal was because the actors were all relatively unheard of at the time and so people focused on the story and stuff. But I actually didn't think the movie adaptation was that great. Plus, when people love a book like this and then they get fresh faces as the actors then it gives those new people a chance to be super famous too, which is very nice of the movie industry.
i agree micheal cera would be very good for this film... they have to be careful casting the colonel though
that chick from juno is pretty spunky and a pretty good actor... she obviously has good chemistry with micheal cera so im voting for her for alaska young.... takumi though will be very difficult... the fox's "flow" will be very hard to capture
I don't know about Micheal Cera. He's not skinny enough me thinks? But it could work. Especially as I can't think of anyone else.

For Alaska... gosh that's hard. Maybe the girl that played Violet in Series of Unfortunate events?

Sir Ian McKellen would be AWESOME as The Old Man!!
Ohmisgosh yes! McKellen FTW!
I'm sure he could do an American accent? Though, he could be a professor from England maybe? It doesn't say where he's from in the book...
isnt pudge a short, ripped guy? Micheal Cera..is tall and...not ripped.
No, the colonel is short and ripped, pudge is. . . Michael Cera-like
pudge? ripped? Don't make me laugh
i would like it to be sam from freaks and geeks, but he is a little too akward
