eh, if there wasn't any money, people would surely find other ways to keep things like the ning running

I still get annoyed about the adverts on youtube videos. Especially when it's promoting the Jonas brothers :|

GAH! Company's use of teen girl idols like that is also really starting to bug me >.< Real people don't act like that! and if they do, run far far away!

If I see one more ad with the Jonas Brothers, I will toss every cookie I have ever had. As if the industry wasn't sick and twisted enough--let's sex it up for the 8-15 year old market!
My hate of the twee genre aside, the advertisments for it are just wrong. My little sister shouldn't feel like she needs to go on a diet because Hannah Montana is wearing Dolly Parton's capris. She shouldn't feel left out because her developing music tastes do not include anything with innuendo. The way in which everything for kids is marketed puts the emphasis on "cool" and "popular." Not that it was any different in the '90s, but they now imply that the only way to live is "the high life" like the celebrities kids adore.
I wish I could put into words how awful the whole deal is, but really, all you have to do is look at one ad. It is glaringly obvious what is implied and how that can hook any young person into the "stupid buyer's mentality."

Horrible, uncalled for, twisted, depraived, shallow, greedy, despicable, deprecating, conniving.....maybe evil, those are just a few of the words that come to mind

It used to bother me until I realized that really the only reason we get lots of free tools and such (ex: over the internet) only because of advertising and the revenue it brings in.

For example, I can offer my product, infomation, completely free on my webiste. This would be absolutely impossible if I couldn't run advertisements.

Also i consider commercials kind of an artform really.

Once again, I get that advertising can be useful for other reasons and isn't completely bad, I just believe things are getting out of control now

My friend recently had a Japanese exchange student staying with her. Sometimes, her parents sent her her favorite magazines from home and my friend and I would look through them.

One thing that really stood out to me was the difference in advertising. There were still a lot of ads, which can't be avoided I guess, but they were so much better than American ads. Instead of showing pictures of anorexic, unrealistic models, they were of real people, making funny faces, acting silly, just being normal. You would very rarely see something like that here. I think this was much more effective than what we get pounded into our heads here.

XD totally. Half the reason I can't stand the Ads here is that they're so standard and bland, occasionally a few will stand out from the others, but usually they're all the same
