At the risk of sounding like I'm on HBO's payroll:
My all-time favorite show is The Avengers (British, 1960's).
Can someone explain to me why vampire shows are so popular? Escapism? Peer pressure?
Permalink Reply by Abreo on August 3, 2012 at 12:37pm THat's funny, for a while I thought you couldn't be a nerd if you liked The Big Bang Theory. Then I read somewhere online someone commented that all of their scientist friends loved The Big Bang Theory but the Pop-Culture Obsessives didn't. It was then I realized that while the show seems to hate its characters for loving pop-culture it seems to respect them for being scientists. It's totally true to a fairly good extent at least. When the show makes poor vague references to comic books it's almost always at the character's expense but when it makes jokes about them being scientists it's almost always less hateful and more friendly towards the characters. I just thought that was interesting.

A good follow-up question would be: which of your favorite shows can you recite most of the dialogue from?
