Nerdfighters

I'm interested in how many nerdfighters have been to band camp. Also, what camps you've been to and when. And if you have any stories to share from band camp please tell! But if you do, start it with "this one time at band camp."

I've been to ISYM at University of Illinois and SEMINAR at Western Michigan University, both this year.

And for once I can't think of a really good story...

Oh my goodness! Where to start? Most of my band stories aren't really from band camp, but they're just as fun... Like,

One time, at a competition, we were taking the big carts we put all the pit equipment on back to the trailer after our show. (we had to pull them by the way; no fancy motorized carts for us) So, the place totally wasn't made for carts that held four timpani and two bass drums, because we had to pull them down a sidewalk with a hill on both sides. My friend Evan was pulling it and was doing a great job... until the bass drum fell off the back. I'll never forget the sight of him running down the hill to chase it. (fortunately, no damage.)

And speaking of instruments falling off, since our practice field is like completely past two buildings and up a steep hill, a maintenance truck takes the bigger instruments (except our good marimba that we actually have to pick the bars up to get through the door) to the field.
Well one day, they took our xylophone and the cymbal stand hanging from the top got caught in a tree and it kinda... fell off the truck. I came up for practice that day and all I could say was "Jacob... why is the xylophone sideways?" Fortunately, Jacob was Mr. Fix it and we got it back to working order pretty soon...

Most of my memories are the result of the fact that we didn't have a ton of money, so we ended up doing a lot of these things ourselves. I got so tired of filling in the cracks in the paint on our instrument frames with sharpies that I decided we'd paint the frames my senior year. Goooood times. We were total nerds...
Oh, band camp. How I love thee. Last February we went to a camp about six hours south of the city where I live. One of the nights we were there, one of my fellow nerdfighter friends decided to read the the 'unerotic, unfun' sex scene in Alaska in our dorm. There were about ten or eleven of us in the dorm, and one of the girls didn't get what the scene was about, and none of the others were willing to explain it to her. So I decided to take up the task and explained it to her. In a very loud, matter-of-fact voice that I've come to name my 'informative voice', just to make everyone else feel as awkward as I did.

I've got a lot of good stories, but that's the first one I can think of off the top of my head.
i've been to band camp! i've been a counselor for 4 years at camp winthers music camp. :D
We are the girls of camp Birch Knoll you hear so much about. The people stop and stare at us whenever we go out. We're known for our people and the clever things we do. Most everybody likes us, we hope you like us to. As we go marching, and the band begins to P-L-A-Y, you can hear us shouting. The girls of Camp Birch Knoll our on their way. So stand up and cheer RAH RAH. Give a cheer for dear old Birch Knoll. For today, we're off to win the best of all the rest. our girls are fighting (fighting). We're off to win the day. We've got the team, we've got the team. We've got steam, we've got steam. For dear old birch knoll's day RAH RAH.

Yeah so I went to Birch Knoll. It was kind of a japy camp but I made some really amazing friends.
Wow, I've never seen any kind of band camp with their own fight song lol.

But you and Danielle remind me of the time at Midwest Percussion Camp all the girls (there were only like 8 of us and like 70 guys) got in the same dorm to hang out and eat cold pizza, then one girl got up on her bed and sang the Captain Vegetable song from Sesame Street. And she was totally into it too.

I've been to band camp!! No fancy music camps, but my Marching band had a week camp every summer.

I feel a bit misled by the title of this topic.
