Nerdfighters

Last year I participated in a 50 book challenge and I fell a little short of the mark, but only cuz I started about 3 months into the year (ahem, yeah right). Several fellow nerdfighters wanted to join me in my quest, so here we are!

Start a thread with your personal goal for 2.0.0.9, and then add on as you read throughout the year. This way we get to see what everyone else is reading & keep each other in check. Feel free to add me as a friend, or you might get a friends request from me--so we keep each other in line!

Good Luck,
Allison :-)

P.S. YES, there will be a 50 Book Challenge 2.0.1.0!!

Added Note: Here's my list of what I have read so far for this year's challenge! http://nerdfighters.ning.com/profiles/blogs/my-50-book-challenge-fo...

Considering that the average (american) guy only reads about 3 books a year while the average girl reads 9, I'll take your goal of 50 and set it to 17 (I round up). Hmmm...well that's awfully low. Screw it. I'll try for 100 (though I bet I'll get 65).

Only 3? I did over 60 last year, if you include rereads (ex: Going Postal) and I didn't really count many books for courses since we tend not to read them entirely.

Considering how many people in this country work strenuous jobs (and often many of them in a single workweek) and come home tired and ready to flip on the telly, it doesn't surprise me all that much. Let's also consider that we're...you know...nerds.

Point taken. I felt lazy this Summer for only reading about a book a week. (They were mostly up in the 700-1000 page range, but still.)

Meh, tis true, once out of uni I just didn't have the time anymore to read as much as I used to. Working full time and managing a household (though I have to admit I'm really messy so the householdy-ness doesn't take up THAT much time) eats up a lot of your day....

Thanks for starting the thread, Allison! It'll be quite interesting to see how far people make it and hopefully it'll help encourage people to continue reading! :)

I'll just start off by posting my current read and my next five:

Current: The Holcroft Covenant - haven't really started on this one yet, but it's for book club which is a week away so I needed to read this first. My mum told me it was fantastic, though, so I'm quite excited. Has anyone else read it?

1 – Paper Towns – John Green
2 – By A Lady – Amanda Elyot
3 – The Book Thief – Markus Zusak
4 – Water For Elephants – Sara Gruen
5 – Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell – Susanna Clarke

I really want to read Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, but it seems...daunting.
I have yet purchase it (checking it out from the library would be intimidating)

Enchanting though it was, I kind of ground to a halt in Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell - I'll give it another chance though, because it is very well-written and original. Let me know what you think when you read it!

I'm going for 50, but I'm a little worried ... I set a rule for myself to not count rereads, but now I'm reconsidering that. Maybe I should allow only a certain number of them to be rereads? I dunno.
