Nerdfighters

We're discussing this in the writing group, and also in the community and projects section of the reconstituted Your Pants forum, but I wanted to bring it here because I felt it would get a good hearing. I'm trying to generate interest for a writing contest that doesn't FTBA, and I want to discuss a couple of questions with you guys. These will change, so keep an eye on the OP.

If you are interested in participating in the contest, please follow the following Tumblr.

  • Should there be rounds or should we just have one big prompt and make it simpler
  • Which charities should we contribute to? Possibly the foundation to decrease worldsuck, or a specific charity?
  • Should there be age categories? Or should we just have everyone competing against everyone else. The way I see it, age categories would only work if we get large numbers participating.
  • Who should be the judges? If you know anyone who would be interested, please let know!

Any ideas?

Currently, we've got two judges and communication going on with others.

News!

1. We're looking for people to design the logo for the DFTBA writing contest 2012!

2. We're looking for more judges! Specificly, for people to apply for the position!

In both cases, please see here for more details on how to do both.

More News!

The logo design contest has seen 42 submissions which can all be seen here. If you choose your top three, you can vote for who you want the winners to be here.

Unfortunately, number thirty nine has had to be disqualified, due to cheating, but all the others are availble.

See Chris Dolman's video on the subject here

Okay, we've got some big news.

The Anthology is available! You can buy it on Smashwords here and on Amazon here.

If you want to find it on your own country's Amazon store, just search "DFTBA Short Story Anthology 2012" on your Amazon.

Brief point though. If you buy it on Smashwords, the money won't go directly to this years p4A. The reason being is that Smashwords pay in quarterly instalments, and therefore we won't get the money untill Jan 2013. However, if you buy on Kindle, we will be getting slightly less money for the foundation, but we will get it now, and thus we will be able to donate to the P4A that's coming up very soon.

So the pros and cons of each

Amazon - Pro: The money will be available sooner (Amazon send payments every time the royalties reach $10)

Amazon - Con: We will get less money per sale (Amazon give a 35% royalty only)

Smashwords - Pro: There will be more money per sale (Smashwords give between 75-60% royalties)

Smashwords - Con: The money won't be available until Jan 2013, and so as a result, you won't be contributing to P4A 2012, but P4A 2013.
