Nerdfighters

I am an atheist Nerdfighter and lately I've been wondering if I was to be religious which I religion would I like to be (that is worded terribly, sorry). So anyway If you had to be religious, which religion would you be and why? Religious Nerdfighters, if you were to switch religion which would you switch to?

I think I would be a Buddhist because I like their way of life and it's the least religious religion I can think of if you know what I mean.

The Eternal Tao is like Buddhism without the Buddha.

Buddhism is very different from most religions, because basically you just try to do the best you can in life. It's awesome.
You can be Christian and Buddhist, Jewish and Buddhist, but you can't be like Christian and Jewish.
That's what is so different about that religion.

Maybe Unitarian Universalism, as I could still hold secular beliefs and I like the idea of people of all different faiths coming together for one common purpose and not killing each other.

If not that, probably some form of Neo-Paganism or liberal Quaker.

UUism has always struck me as less of a religion and more of a philosophy and excuse for open-minded people of different religions to get together in community. After all, how is something a religion that doesn't even require that you follow its basic teachings? You can claim Orthopraxy, but how is that any different from any other religion? All religions require some degree of right action. I'd say if you're an atheist who wants to practice a religion that actually teaches something unique your best choices are Buddhism (though some schools do have semi-theistic views) or Taoism.

I'm an atheist, but I once tried to convert to a religion I really liked and it was Judaism. Look it up on Wiki I really like their concept of god- being nor a man or a woman but an idea.

I would choose Tibetan Buddhism because it doesn't interfere with atheism, considers skepticism a virtue, is very sexual (tantra), and has a belief system that is based on kindness to all beings and aiding their ascent to the undefined enlightenment. Thusly, Tibetan Buddhists truly believe it is their duty to make the world a better place for everyone, including helping the poor and the sick and teaching the dumb.

deism, although it is less of an actual religion and more of a spiritual belief.

As an atheist, I would choose Bhuddism. Why?
Well, most other religions have a rather nasty habit of getting involved in things that I generally consider to be no-noes like...oh, i don't know Genocide, Witch-Hunts, Inquisitions, Crusades, that kind of thing, and I'm more of the peaceful type so, I'll go with watever doesn't require me to hate someone because they think diferently than I do.

I'm an atheist, but if I had to choose a religion, I'd choose Buddism, because I'm also a vegetarian, and don't beleive in harming other living things if it can be avoided. I think that many humans, particularly religious ones, forget that we are animals too, and all animals deserve to be treated with respect. the Buddist religion seems like the only one that really gets this.

Buddhism.
Probably because atheism searches for a lack of inexplicable, and buddhists pretty much say, there may be a mighty creator, or, there may not... but you should not hurt anyone, be peacefull, because its right, not for fear of horrid punishment!

Unitarian Universalism would appeal most to me for the reasons stated by Katie. If we want something with its own religious doctrines, the reasoning given for Taoism and Tibetan Buddhism are appealing to me.

To push it even farther, if I had to believe in a religion with a deity, I would be inclined towards being a Quaker, because, unlike most Christian sects of which I'm aware, they push strongly for religious tolerance, anti-war activism, and human rights, some even being involved in forming the important human rights group Amnesty International. Furthermore, they're devoted to discussion, rather than a set doctrine, which makes them more compatible with my values of free thought.
