Nerdfighters

When I first read them, I was in love! Not with the characters, but with the literature, and as time went on and the franchise blew up, I couldn't help but feel a slight twinge telling me I should hate the books.. and I refuse to watch the movies. Now people who haven't even read the books hate them as much as anyone. It's crazy..  Anyone else notice that? Or change their opinion once the world began to recognise them? I fail to believe the saga is "the worst thing anyone has ever written  EVER". Is there any other original "Twilight" fans out there? Or am I slightly mad? Please, tell me honestly.. xD

Popularity is a killer. =[

hmmm...I can honestly say i use to like twilight but then it went big and i started to fester alot of negative feelings towards it. Then, i re-read the books again. I started to notice while the story was good, and the writingstyle was good, the characters were not. They seemed to lack any personality traits except for obssesive, but thats just my opinion. To all those who still like Twilight dont rad it again it was a great first read but the more you read it the more errors with it u find.
I read Twilight in 8th grade with would be late 2005. I loved the books back then, I went to midnight book premieres and everything. Then one day I read it and all I could think was "I used to like this?". Now I just think that it is a poorly written book that for whatever reason grabs the attention of young teenage girls.
I like the idea of the story now, but not the book itself.
I used to like twilight before the hype, but when Breaking Dawn came out I could not believe how bad it was. I reread the other three and realized how terrible they all really were. Plus the fans were really annoying.
I'm thinking maybe I need to read them again.. I've read too much since then to make a fair judgement on weather I still actually like the books or not.. xD
I remeber, that my friend recommended me Twilight, before the film came out. I can honestly say, that I've read the first three books in four days and loved them. I was very excited for the fourth one, and for the film of course. But when I read the last book... it was a disaster. And the film... Better not to say. All my love for Twilight was gone.
And as Imani said, the fans were annoying.
I don't like all this "hating Twilight" hype. I understand if someone knows the story and says that they don't like it. But hating something, that you only know from gossips?
I read the Twilight books four. Before the movie was even a thought. I remember reading the books and no one knew what Twilight was. I waited months for Breaking Dawn and got it at midnight and read it by 4 AM :] Now, I don't like to tell people I'm a Twilight fan cause they'll go off on their rants about "sparkling vampires" and all that. The movies are meh compared to the books. I hate how big it's become and I hate all the negativity it gets.

But I still love the books n_n
I used to like Twilight. I even read the first book in two days.
And I agree that popularity (and unpopularity) made me dislike the books at first. I'm one of those weirdos who likes things that are unpopular and gets turned off by things that are mainstream. But, as I started to read why people out there didn't like Twilight or why they thought it wasn't well-written or a good influence for young teenage girls, I started to agree with them. They made good points. And to be honest, each book just got worse. Twilight is all right, but Breaking Dawn . . . WTF?
So, while I don't hate Twilight, I just don't like it anymore. The movies are good entertainment, though. Not good movies (or movies that I'd watch over and over), but entertaining.
I blame Bella's lack of characterization on her being a Mary Sue: "any author surrogate or highly-idealized character who plays a major role in a plot." In other words, the effect of the story is created by you putting yourself in Bella's shoes, thus cancelling out the need for Bella to have any personal qualities. I also blame the Mary Sue for the passionate opinions about the book: if you connect with the plot, you'll love it, but if the book doesn't offer you anything emotionally, you'll see its shortcomings.

I LOVED twilight and read all of the books consecutively (and rather obsesively). However, like the other people on this thread, I couldn't STAND the hype, and now I can't stand the books. I believe I'd have to actually reread the books in order to see what I saw in them before because the opinion of the majority sways your opinion whether you like it or not.

I do feel bad that some people are so disdainful of it. One of my friends wanted to get a Twilight t-shirt, but chickened out because she knew her friends would make fun of her. She's not a crazy fan, but she still felt boxed in, which is never good.
Yeah! I'm an original :) I think the movies are horrible, though. I still think the books are fantastic, and get kind of really ticked off by the haters, but whatever.
I used to love reading the books until everyone seemed to be talking about Twilight and then I just began to loose interest and especially when Breaking dawn was released, my opinion of Twilight went downhill. The first film wasn't a good adaptation of the book however since they cut out lots of interesting parts from the book I feel. Twilight was good before it became so popular.
um, yes. about everything. I found the books a couple months before the movie started to get really really hyped. I read the first three in rapid succession. I literally read New Moon in one night. I got obsessed to say the least. I even went to the Breaking Dawn midnight book release and the midnight opening for the first movie. I had debates/entire conversations about it. but gradually I started to care less and less about Twilight, not because everyone was either "I LOVE IT OMG" or "UGH TWILIGHT EFFING SUCKS", I think I just burnt myself out on it. by the time that the second movie came out, I didn't really care about it anymore. I didn't even see new moon in theaters. honestly, I didn't realize quite just how ridiculous they were unil watching Alex's videos about them xD
yea, i used to like the books when it first came out. Then it started to blow up and i heard others criticizing it and i started to think about the series and incorporate what i had heard from other people and it brought to my attention that it really was a good story line and such (except for the last book in my opinion. i didn't like it :~/) but the writing wasn't that spectacular like i had once believed and the characters weren't that great either. Although i have never liked Bella, i found her whiny and annoying the whole series, even the first time i read it. But the book series really isn't the worst ever. its just not great. But the 11 year old girls who fantasize over Edward and Jacob ARE really annoying
