Nerdfighters

Have you ever been in the midst of a nice conversation and, upon stating an opinion, had to deal with the conversation coming to an abrupt halt as the person/people you're speaking to pauses to absorb what you just said and give you a look that says nothing but "WTF!?"

I have those moments frequently, like when I say "I think there should be a cap set on the number of children allowed per household" or other things like that.

Share your opinions that get awkward stares!

Fox News is an outlier and should not be factored in with information gathered from "real" news.
I would like to interrupt this fiery rant with an important statement:

Infinity is what happens when cow tippers miss and hit an 8.

Normally, I would be jumping all over your post, but I really only disagree with the "ends justifies the means," and if I attacked it, this thread would become hostile and people would feel uncomfortable sharing their awkward opinions.
I agree with your suicide thing to a point.

It's hard to not cry when someone you know does it.

However, the whole Facebook/Myspace memorial is a bit much. What, are the dead reading those pages? Because that's what everyone seems to think.
I stopped a conversation when I said I wasn't going to vote.

Still not voting, and loving every second of it.
I don't vote because if you register to vote Jury Duty can find you. Eff that.
asano_man, I don't fully understand your dislike of calling asian people asian.
The whole point of that term (along with hispanic, european, etc) is that if you don't know the exact wherabouts of someone's upbringing, you can avoid offending them by using a broader term.
i.e. The guy in dress robes and wearing a turban that's being thoroughly checked at the airport is more than likely a Middle Easterner -- this is a safe assumption. An unsafe assumption would be calling him an Iraqi.

It's just a less offensive way to categorize people.
of all my contraversial pollitical and philosophical views, the fact that i HATE potatoes get me the most dirty looks.
yes, i hate all of them. disgusting little things.

oh here's a better one: people should have to pass a test to be able to legally have children.
I think that 2nd one is a really good idea.
Oh awkward opinions.

~ Religion has done more harm than good for the world and people should not feel that they can't have their spirituality without it
~ Breed specific legislation for dogs does nothing to stop the ownership of aggressive pets.
~ I actually believe the climate crisis is real
~ I agree that we need major health care reform in the US
~ I also disagree with the idea of a government run public option for health care reform
~ Trophy hunting should be illegal
~ As much work as the american education system also needs I don't agree with how lightly we take the idea of homeschooling. It makes it too easy for parents to monopolize how a child will think as an adult.
~ And strangely enough I get the most dirty looks for saying that collectively as a country we could stand to be less ignorant of the rest of the world. This might be different if I didn't live in the midwest. . . but for some reason i still do.
I am intrigued by "food aid is evil and contributes to world hunger and world poverty".
Could you explain this opinion?
Most of my awkward opinions are related to British politics, I'm a Labour supporter and I had no problem at all with Gordon Brown, I thought he was a very good Prime Minister.
I also don't really like The Beatles, I can't stand Monty Python and one which may upset a lot of Nerdfighters, The Mountain Goats are the worst band I have ever seen perform. I believe that every male looks better with a beard and I will probably hate around 98% of the content on the average person's ipod.
That's ok, I probably hate close to 90% of the content on my ipod too! Since Apple are a bunch of morons who have built a crapass system which prevents me from going through it with ease! I can't acctually do anything about it without staying hooked up to my computer for hours, with a list a mile long, and I refuse to syncronize it. Besides I would like to be able to do it when I'm acctually using it!

P.S I liked Gordon Brown too, of what little I've heard of he's opinions, mainly in international context. He lacked charisma, but so what?! I hate how people only vote for those slick speakers, who's so obviously fake.

Obama is perhaps a rare exeption, who's both charismatic and real!
