I'll cut to the chase. I am setting up a video blog collaboration for aspiring fantasy/sci-fi writers called the 'Amatuer World Architects' (AWA. The name is subject to change based on feedback from members). This would be a youtube channel whereby fantasy/sci-fi writers join together in a video community and we talk about the topic of writing fantasy/ writing in general/ reading of fantasy/ world building/ trials and tribulations etc. in a series of videos.
My general idea was to have a schedule of people create a video to a day of the week they've chosen so eg. such-and-such makes a video every monday of each week while someone makes a video on another day of the week. If we get at least seven people then we can have at least one person making a video a day. Each member of the channel would be given the password so they can access the channel and upload their video whenever they like.
Its a very informal project whereby you can talk about anything as long as its related to fantasy/sci-fi literature (even your own). So yes, you could promote your own work if you wanted to. The world is your oyster.
The main ethos behind the idea is that its a community for AMATUER fantasy writers. All over the internet and even in some places on youtube you can find professionals fantasy writers giving the dos and donts without direct contact with the aspiring author. They can feel a bit out of their depth with all these professionals shouting different advice at them. This vlog will be different. This is a place for all fantasy writers to be in the same boat. We're all inexperienced (including myself) and we're all knew but we want to reach great heights with our writing and our videos could reflect that. Thus, for example, a video could solely be about what you find hard about fantasy writing and what you did to overcome it. You can give advice to the watchers of our videos, but remember its about being in the same place as your audience so the watchers at home have someone to connect to if they find their writing challenging. Its a place for writers to gain ideas but also just to feel part of a community of people going through exactly the same trials as the rest of us. But of course, like I said, you could talk about anything related to fantasy/sci-fi writing.
So in conclusion, i'm looking for people who would be interested in taking part in this project. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to message me on my profile or reply on here. I'll answer them all. If you are interested, message me on my profile or IM me if you can find me online! :D And who knows? If it becomes a big thing, maybe we could have socials in the future :P
