Up until now, we have had a Catholic/ Christian president. How would you feel if we had a mormon(sp?) president?? Just wondering what you would think about that.

Permalink Reply by Michael Lee on February 22, 2012 at 6:03pm personally i dont think our President is powerful at all. I believe he (or maybe eventually a she but i doubt it as America is still sexist.) is merely a face used by someone else behind the scenes.
Permalink Reply by Jackalope Joe D'Antonio on February 22, 2012 at 8:58pm that is not based in any fact at all. The president is the head of the executive branch. It is completely illogical to think that there is a "Puppet master" controlling the government or the president. If you had any evidence to your claim I may look at it further. However since there is no credible evidence to validate your claim that I am aware of, your point is illogical.
Permalink Reply by Julia Chapman on February 22, 2012 at 9:02pm That's what I thought, just decided to leave it alone. Who signs bills into law? Yup.
Permalink Reply by Jackalope Joe D'Antonio on February 22, 2012 at 8:54pm I do not want religion to have an impact at all. In fact any candidate who uses Religion in campaigning at all loses all of my support. We are a secular society based on secular values. I personally want an Atheist for president. But as far as Mormons go absolutely not. Racism is indoctrinated into the Mormon faith. They teach that all non-white people are that way because they sided with the devil in the fight between god and Satan in the beginning of time. It is a completely illogical and incomprehensible faith. Any person holding this belief obviously does not have enough the brain capacity or power necessary to lead a group of people in the pledge let alone lead the country.
Permalink Reply by Julia Chapman on February 22, 2012 at 8:59pm Just want to clarify a few things. You are mostly right, but the belief is that a third of the angels stayed with God, a third followed Satan, and a third couldn't make up their mind. This last third is the ones that were sent to Earth as non-whites. Still racist, though. I'm not Mormon, just know random facts.
Permalink Reply by Wayne Dirac on February 23, 2012 at 7:31am And your random facts are wrong. I am mormon, and you and Joseph are just spreading ignorant rumors.
Permalink Reply by Julia Chapman on February 23, 2012 at 11:31am Ah, but I have done research. You might want to explain the rituals about death and marriage as well? I know what I am talking about through personal conversation with an expert. I remember a distinct discussion in which this came into play. I wouldn't call someone ignorant if they are not, and I wouldn't call them rumors if they are true. There is no bias in my post, so there is no need to be defensive.
Permalink Reply by Wayne Dirac on February 23, 2012 at 11:56am You talked to an "expert" huh? Julia, I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints my entire life. I served a two year mission in Indiana where everyday I studied the gospel for 2 - 3 hours straight, and then from 10am to 9pm talked to whoever was willing to listen and discuss the beliefs of my church. I graduated from BYU-I which requires 15 credit hours of religious course no matter what your major is. When I was in high school I took elective seminary courses for all 4 years. I have ancestors who were murdered because of their faith in this church, and their family was literally forced out of America to settle the desert because of religious persecution. I think I know what the beliefs of my church are, and I am here to tell you that the "random facts" you posted earlier are wrong. And calling a belief system racist based on false information is biased.
Permalink Reply by Julia Chapman on February 23, 2012 at 12:27pm I highly disagree with this. You have no idea what my expert has gone through. He joined your church at the age of 16, behind his parents' back, worked with the MTC (I have the recordings somewhere), moved in with an LDS family, and lived with them. He left the church when they were about to send him on a mission when he opened the Bible and read "Beware of false prophets." He had studied the religion for hours each day, conversed with some of the leaders, and even been baptized several times on behalf of the dead. Excuse me, but the impressiveness that you are trying to give off is failing. You are not impressive. Sorry.
Also, you have replied telling me that I am wrong, but what are the actual beliefs? They are as I stated. It is the rule of thirds. And it is racist. If it is false information (which it isn't) than it is still not biased. I didn't say "mormunz are stoopid cuz their rascist lol" which would be biased. I said that those are the facts. You don't know the meaning of your words. If you don't understand, look them up in the dictionary. Frankly, I am disgusted and surprised that you would misrepresent your church like you are. I highly doubt that you do know what you are talking about because you fail to provide facts and make claims pulled out of the blue. Saying things like (and I paraphrase) "Your expert, who I know nothing about, is completely wrong on all counts and I am not even going to address what you said but I am going to go on a long rant about how I am so much better than someone who has spent his life studying all sorts of liturgy and look how impressive I am though I have no facts to back me up" is wrong. I'm sorry, but 1. It is racist. 2. You are wrong. and 3. I know what I am talking about. If you want, I can prove it.
Permalink Reply by Wayne Dirac on February 23, 2012 at 2:13pm Listen, this is a thread about whether or not it is a big deal if a mormon were president. I understand you have looked into the LDS faith, if for no other reason, to satisfy curiosity. I'm sure your friend is a great person, and followed his heart in matters of religion. I am simply saying that I actually have served a mission and I think I have much more experience and knowledge of the LDS church, and there is no such thing as the "rule of thirds."
Because this thread is about the office of the president, I don't want to get into a dragged out discussion about the core tenants of my religion. If you want to start a thread about the beliefs of the LDS church then I would be happy to answer any questions there. Having said that I just want everyone reading this thread to know that there is no racism in the LDS church or in any of its teachings. There may be people who are racist that are LDS, but the church is not. If you want to know what mormons believe you can check out www.mormon.org, or find an actual mormon who lives near you and ask them about it.
Once again, as an actual member of the LDS church let me say that there is no racist doctrines in the church, and the information Joseph and Julia are giving about the church is misleading at best.
Permalink Reply by Julia Chapman on February 23, 2012 at 5:21pm I still don't think you are right. You still didn't answer what I said. Maybe it isn't called the rule of thirds, but it's there, and it's racist. Also, lds.org is another site that proves my point.
Permalink Reply by Wayne Dirac on February 23, 2012 at 5:36pm Wow, ok, I challenge you to find something on lds.org that proves mormons have a racist doctrine.
