Nerdfighters

In the Nerdfighter Recognition thread (Shaena Rose made it, all stuff in this post stems from her thread!), most people who replied liked the idea of making DFTBA Nerd Pride friendship bracelet things (thank you, Kathleen Konno, for the wonderful idea of bracelets/wristbands!). So, tomorrow, I'm gonna make myself some clay beads (just because I have no car to go to the store and get real plastic ones) and make some friendship bracelets! You can make the bracelets out of anything as long as it says DFTBA on it somehow, it can be taken off/put on so you can trade it or give it to a friend, and doesn't attract bugs (so making a bracelet out of sugar is not really suggested, even though it'd be very cool). I'll definitely post pictures of the ones I make. The idea is that you wear it when you go out so people know you're a Nerdfighter, and if you meet somebody new who is or could be a Nerdfighter, you give them one of your bracelets (inspired by an idea by Elijah Joseph Donnelly). Also, somebody came up with the idea that we can find a charity and sell some bracelets every few months and donate the proceeds to that charity, as Katherine Smith suggested.

So, talk about anything bracelet-related, post pictures of yours, ask people if they wanna trade, talk about good charities, etc. :)

EDIT: We now have a group devoted to all things bracelet-related! http://nerdfighters.ning.com/group/nerdfighterfriendshipbracelets

I wouldnt be too jealous of the whole British thing :P. Im very excited to see your beads. I bet they're awesome.
But you people have good food, awesome accents, amazing bands, Dr. Who, Harry Potter, and those red phone booth things!

I didn't make any new beads today, I'll try to make some tomorrow so I can bake them and take pictures. (the only way I can take pictures is by holding whatever I have up to the webcam that is attached to my laptop, which is hard to do with squishy beads lol.)

I can't wait to see how your bracelet turns out!
haha, Im glad you appreciate our culture :P
*laughs at the notion of british food being good*
What's wrong with british food?
I think this is a brilliant idea, I shall now go make many, many bracelets :)
That'd be cool, sharing them via group. I think enough people would be willing to PM other people and trade bracelets. I don't know if I would, but I'm sure that some people would share their addresses with their Nerdfighter buddies to do a long-distance bracelet swap.
Huh...totally in for this! Not sure how I'm going to accomplish this, but I'm sure the 100 en shop will have something for me. Also, love the idea of setting up a charity! How would we accomplish this though?
We could set up something such as an ebay account that a few set people could sell bracelets through, postage is paid in addition to the cost of the bracelet and all profit goes to charity. To make sure the people making the bracelets don't feel overwhelmed an ebay account or such would give them the ability to only sell what they have already made and not have to worry about preorders. (I have been thinking about a way to sell some nerdfighter products to raise money for charity)
Thanks! I was thinking we could sell the bracelets irl at stands, to friends, etc, or sell them on sites like Etsy (we could make a communal account or just work individually), and mail the cash to whatever charity we select, so that way people from anywhere can buy bracelets, but people who don't shop online could buy them as well. That's what I was thinking we could do.
Yeah a communal account would be really cool so lots of different nerdfighters could show their creative side but it might be an issue with money involved to make sure it does end up getting sent to the charity
I know. I'm trying to figure out how to ensure it. Maybe we can make our official mailing address one volunteer's home and they can sort out the money and send it to the charity? I'm sure that we'd be able to find somebody willing to post their address and receive/manage/send out the money to the chosen charity. I'd do it, but I live with my folks and am only 16, so that doesn't really work, but if you guys like this idea and somebody is willing to do it, we may be able to do it that way.
