If you can't stop something and the effects of making it illegal are worse than it being legal then it just makes sense to make it legal. Effects of making it illegal 1 clogging up jails with people just trying to enjoying themselves. 2. cloging up jails with businessmen making them criminals. 3 cloging up jails with farmers. 4 all the violence associated with it being illegal. 4. all the revinue lost to law enforcement. 5. All the lost tax revinue. Because of the overcrowding of jails people that should be in there longer such as embezelors and violent people are out early because they are too scared to misbehave in jail.
1. You don't have to use jail sentences.
2. So what? It doesn't matter what you are. If you break the law, you break the law. See point one.
3. See point 2.
4. In the majority of cases, law enforcement would still be needed. Drugs that are addictive cause people to do irrational things for them, like crime.
5. The fact that something doesn't make us richer doesn't mean we shouldn't do it.
6. See point 1.
True you don't have to make them jail sentences. It is that way now. Fines would be accounted for in the price like insurance does for businesses now. It would be counted as a business expense. It does matter a businessman shouldn'tbe clogging up jails. If pot or the other drugs were legal they would be cheaper. Heck many would grow it themselves and seeds don't cost much. I therefore think the other crimes associated with it would go down, like petty theft. It should not be illegal. One should have the freedom to choose your own lifestyle. We do with cigaretts. Do you think they willbe illegal? Should we have the option to choose? Why not?
Cigarettes don't give people hallucinations, alter brain chemistry, give people phycosis, or make them incapacitated for three days straight immediately after use.
yea they just give you lung cancer witch KILLS YOU whereas those side affects are expected and even the reason for smoking pot in the first place
If cigarettes put you in danger with intimidate use, then you'd have a point. Cannabis however, gives you symptoms which you get with immediate use, which can kill you (plenty of people have died while high, walking into them middle of roads/off bridges etc because they didn't know better).
Citation needed. Seriously. Right now. Prove to me this epidemic of people stoned on pot getting themselves killed.
Cigarettes do alter brain chemistry, do your research. Ever heard of dependence? That generally has to do with the brain, and I guess the number of nicotine addicts is still way above any other substance of addiction.
If a substance can reach the brain it generally alters the chemistry. Did you know that we have a class of receptors in the brain (both in the central and peripheral nervous system) called nicotinic receptors? And did you know they are named that way because nicotine binds to them? The more you know.
Also, cannabis' effects are usually worn off after a few hours.
Are you seriously saying that something should be banned because a few people have a reaction to it? Besides we are talking about stuff that is banned and that hasn't stopped people from useing it. Therefore you make it legal, tax it and use the revinues to help the stupid users some help. Making it illegal doesn't stop it from being used. You can die from alcohol poisoning also.
I'm not suggesting making it illegal stops it being used. I'm suggesting, as we know from data, that making it illegal lowers its usage. Portugal, Holland, every country where it has been legalised has seen an increase in usage. Not dramatic, but steady, which overall is not a good thing.
That increase could and probably is because of a culture trend. It is just more in fashon. I certainly prefer personal freedom. Besides if it was legal and taxed the funds could be used to help stupid addicts.
