Blurbing book club book from 1 January - 31 January 2011.  

Here's a few things you should probably do:

1. Read the book (obviously).

2. Come back to this forum and leave your thoughts about the book. You
can write a sentence, you can write an essay, it doesn't matter,
whatever you want.

3. Blurb the book.
Some of you may not know what a blurb is so allow me to explain: A
blurb is a sentence of 10 words or less, that sums up the book in
question. If you want an example, look on the back (occasionally the
front) of some books lying around your house. Those are blurbs.

Keep in mind that you can also compose lol-cat blurbs if you'd like (the same thing but with internet slang).

 

This book was chosen for January because it's one of my favourite books ever, it's widely available and I hope we can start the New Year off with a great book discussion.

I love this book. I prefer it's sequel even though I don't think it tells the story nearly as well.

Did you mean Ender's Shadow or another sequel from Ender's perspective? I've only read Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow, but I'm hoping to get to others in both series soon.

Read Shadow of the Hegemon next. It's the next book in the Bean series.

There's also Xenocide isn't there? I believe that's still from Ender's pov, though.

Yeah, there's another trilogy from Ender's pov: Speaker for the Dead (my favorite), Xenocide, and Children of the Mind. There's also a newer one, but I can't remember the title... Ender in Exile, or something along those lines.

Glad I'm not the only one who loved Speaker for the Dead. Such a huge departure from the first book, but extremely well written and an amazing journey for a mind new to Science Fiction. Jane will forever hold a special place in my imagination -- if I could make anything in Science Fiction into a science fact, it would be Jane.

Ender in Exile (you have the name correct) was excellent as well, very fun to see the journey there. The absolute newest one though is Shadows in Flight, which I've yet to start for some reason and is calling my name... *wanders off to find the book*

Speaker For The Dead was my favorite. I didn't like Xenocide or Children of the Mind very much :/

Yes! The sequel or parallel? Ender's Shadow was amazing! It doesn't give as much big picture but Bean is just so intersting. Bean's sequels are better.

Subjective opinion. I find the Ender books to be captivating and explore a wide range of philosophical and xenological issues. The Bean books are just as excellent, but focus primarily on political and relationship issues.

The movie in the works should be pretty exciting, because it combines Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow, telling the story by using both Bean and Ender.

THEY'RE FINALLY MAKING A MOVIE? :D
I know that they're technically two series but i always felt like they books were broken up between three parts. Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow being one part. Where they are still more innocently written. Bean's sequels being a seperate part where you like you said focus more on the political. And the Ender's sequels being a third part where you focus more on what life means and what it means just to be alive.
