Nerdfighters

ok so we are NERDfighters so why not help each other out in in hw topics. like a hw help group or forum or just this discussion. but we all have our nerdy strengths and weakness. so why not aid each other and get help too! so i throw out the idea to a nerdfighter study/hw help group. i am sure that many of you have also developed some study tips esp you nerdfighters abroad i bet my paper about WW2 would be so much better if it held info from a nerdfighter from poland! any math nerds out there?

You should ask specific questions not "are you knowledgeable on this broad topic"
do you have any? i just wanted to start this so people can get help and other can help
i have to write a senior speech (about 4-5 minutes). Any ideas?

the whole point is to be relatable to a high school audience and the funnier the better in my opinion :)
Make sexual jokes. We love those.
mmmm? is that all just a speech relating to hs? that is broad
I might be able to help, even though I'm likely too late.

I've written a few speeches for school throughout my years, most of them were well received and a lot of them were, at least to some degree, amusing.

Thing about amusing speeches is that you can't try to hard to make the audience laugh. Remember that you are writing a speech, not a stand up comedy script. When I've made an audience laugh, it's always been only semi-intentionally, the purpose of the speech has never been to entertain. I always write my speeches in such a manner that they are potentially funny, but if it turns out nobody finds it amusing, the speech won't be ruined.

If you're supposed to hold it in a very tense situation, take advantage of that. If people are nervous and the audience is expecting a speech that is cliché, bordering on cheesy, take advantage of that. If you approach a serious situation with ease (not necessarily in a playful manner), the result may end up amusing.

To take an example. A couple of months back we had this huge, important speech on the theme "relationships and strong ties" (very literally translated from Swedish, but you get the point). Everybody were speaking about what their siblings meant to them or what different relationships mean during different stages of life. I spoke about a backpack that I held very dear when I was younger. I was completely honest and sincere with it, but spoke in such a manner that I appeared aware of how bizarre the topic was. I made the audience laugh quite a few times during my five minutes, without having written any jokes or gags. On top of that, I got an A for it.

So basically, what I'm saying is: The quality of the speech is your top priority, don't try too hard to make it funny and always consider the that people might not laugh when you want them to.
haha i could have used you last semester this semester i have no maths. i fear this will lower my little math ability without taking it formally in a classroom for a year. thoughts?
There is already a group for this:
Nerdfighter Tutoring and Mentoring

I recommend if you're interested in this topic, join the group and any relevant discussions therein.
I'm not too bad with essays if anyone needs help brainstorming.

Great idea by the way, I really like it :)
