Nerdfighters

my story is a little strange.

my friend, when she sleeps over, likes to write on me because it's funny. one time she wrote' paper towns' on my back. i asked her what that was and she told me about the book. and then, coinsidentily, i found an abandoned copy in my school. i remembered that my friend wrote it on my back, so Ii opened it up. i read the cover on the inside(i don't know why, but i like to know about the auther before i read it) and it said'go to nerdfighters.com' so i did. TADA!

so what i want to know is how you found out about the nerdfighters.

In March of 2008 I was talking with a stranger in a chat room and they linked me to Julia Nunes. When I was watching one of her questions videos, she mentioned the Vlogbrothers so I searched them on Youtube. Watched them from beginning to the most recent video at the time and officially became a Nerdfighter.

When I bought Looking for Alaska at the end of 2007 , I had no idea what the Vlogbrothers were or who John Green was (except that he was the author of the book). Anyway, I started reading the book in class because I brought it for SSR and I liked it so much I was reading it in Math when we were supposed to be doing homework towards the end of class. And then something weird happened. Tricia, this girl from my class came up to me and was like "Oh my gosh, are you a nerdfighter?! Do you watch the Vlogbrothers?!" and my reaction in my head was "umm...what is this crazy person talking about?" and then when I said no, she said I should go watch their videos on YT. Although, sadly I did not listen to her right away. I didn't listen to her until about a year later when I read An Abundance of Katherines and then I looked up vlogbrothers and it was like seeing the light. ;)

I work and practically live in the YA department at the library (first YA department in the country, btw) and several of the librarians are huge fans of John Green, so I was told to read Alaska. A few of the videos were posted on the department's blog, and I watched them. I sat down over a year ago and tried to watch all of them. I just finished last night. There was a long hiatus in there, which was ended when I went to the American Library Association conference in Chicago this summer and met John himself.

I had one of those days where I would just watch a random video then click a random related video then watch..etc. for like..10 hours straight. It was around May 07 and I saw some vlogbrothers videos..I watched some, thought these guys were completely insane. THEN later in the summer, lets call it...July 18th. I was doing the same thing I came across ADH and I was like...wow thats legitimate. Refreshed the page to see the same video being featured. It was kinda weird, but I consider myself before the ADH wave :P

My friend likes to pester me into doing stuff when I don't like doing anything. And one day, we happened to be online doing nothing, and she got me on youtube watching the 50 Jokes videos and then some Song Wednesdays. (It was a Hank-dominated experience.) Then she kind of just emailed me the link to the vlogbrothers channel, and I proceeded to watch every video they had ever made in about two weeks. (End of story) Nerfighter-ness was accomplished.

My story is a long chain of YouTube events. At first I didn't even know what vlogging was, then my friend showed me Nerimon's (Alex Day) "Harry Potter is Gay" video, and I pretty much fell in love with Alex after that, so I decided to watch all one hundred and something of his video's, and Charlie McDonnell (charlieissocoollike) appears in quite a lot of them. As soon as I saw Charlie, I, well... I thought he was quite an attractive young man. So I decided I wanted to oggle him as much as poss- I mean, I subscribed to his channel, and he did a cover of Accio Deathly Hallows. Clicked on the video it was a response to and I saw Hank Green, and he kept talking to this guy named John, and I thought, wait, could this be John Green? Author of my favorite book of all time? What is he doing on YouTube? After that, I couldn't watch the Vlogbrothers fast enough. And well, that's my story. I guess you had to be there.
