This 10 year old boy, Will Phillips, is protesting the laws that prevent the gay community from marrying by sitting down and not saying the pledge of allegiance.

Even if you don't agree with his views, the fact that this child is exercising his rights as an American citizen in order to point out what he feels is a contradiction in American policy is amazing. Not only that, but he is doing it in a legal, and peaceful way. I am surprised at how informed and well-spoken he is for a ten year old.

Here is a quote of why he is protesting:
"I've grown up with a lot of people and I'm good friends with a lot of people who are gay and I think they should have the rights all people should, and I'm not going to swear that they do," the ten-year-old Phillips said.

What would you guys do if you had a child who got in trouble at school for standing up for what they believed in? Would your reaction be different if you didn't agree with their views?

It's always great seeing young people getting involved in a worthy cause! I wish more adults would follow his example.

I think that this an amazing way to protest, especially a ten year old. And it's so true as well!
I wish the kids at high school had as much courage as that one kid.
((AND I LOFF HIS SHIRT!))

Wow, I wish he was my best friend.
He lives in the town right next to mine too.
He is also my hero.

I heard about this a few weeks ago, I want to go give this kid a high five. He understands the pledge way more than most adults.

I would fight the school's punishment if he were my child, there isn't any kind of law that states you MUST recite the pledge. He's fully within his rights of free speech to not say it, and to stand up for what he thinks is right.

I think his reasoning is retarded, but he should not be punished. No one should be forced to make a pledge or oath that she does not believe in. Kinda defeats the purpose of the pledge. Now if he burns down the school or starts capping the straight kids in protest, that's different.
