Nerdfighters

I have to write an Op.Ed. (opinion) piece for my english class in the semi-sort of style of Thoreau and Emerson...but it can be about anything...and I want to make mine
A-as FUNNY as possible
B-as NERDY as possible
I need to have some credibility in my topic...so it can't be about like quantum physics because I know nothing of it...but any ideas?????
just to get my mind flowing...i need awesome nerdfightarian input XD

Can the piece be about anything? Or are there limitations?

Lets see, you could right an piece about how nerdfighteria is helping to decrease world suck. You could include information on some of the projects that we've done. Also you could add in how nerdfighteria is helping nerds all over the world feel accepted, instead of like outcasts.

Thats all I have right now, I'll keep thinking about it though.
DFTBA
The paradox to that is that some nerdfighters feel like outcasts.

So, include that somewhere in there.
i mean, in reality not everyone feels like an 'incast'....hmmm...or w/e you call non-outcasts...so its applicable anywhere, in way
thats good...but im not sure my teacher would understand nerdfighteria is hahaha
but its a valid point....i could talk about the genius of john and hank green XD
The theory of Socialism.... based off of Star Trek. ((The Vulcans are socialist and you know it.)) or The Dispossessed. It's great for writing about.
seeing as i've never watched star trek, or read the dispossessed....i don't think i can write about those
but the dispossessed is def going on my list of books to read this year XD
How about Lord of the Rings vs Star Wars?

I did a paper exploring their similarities... It was close to ten pages long and I got an A. Also it was hilarious.
its a possibilty....this would involve watching all 9 movies hahaha which would be very fun (only because to read the LOTR books a lone would take me weeks and i dont have that much time hahaha)
honestly, i was thinking more along the lines of how society has lost respect for learning or w/e.....but I'm not sure how to make a paper out of it
You could start off by giving specific examples of things that repersent society losing respect for learning. Maybe mention that more people can reconize the picture of Brittany Spears than James K. Polk (these are just two examples it could be anybody). I read that fact somewhere but I don't remember where. But if you wanted you could even take a poll of people you know. Just print off some pictures of celebrities and historical figures and write down the results.
In addition, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a great example of how bureaucratic oversight and emphasis on testing just about kills real education - Umbridge and her "theory" versus practical application - in comparison to Dumbledore's or McGonagall's teaching methods. You could make the argument that inaplicability to the real world and overemphasis of testing have contributed to society's lack of respect for education.

I'd also read Hard Times by Charles Dickens - it's a great satire about education among other things - "facts, facts, facts," and the teacher is named Mr. Mchoakumchild :)
