India gays win landmark ruling decriminalizing homosexual sex

Finally, India would get rid of the British negative influence (or Christian influence) law that criminalized homosexual sex.

This is a landmark victory.

The repeal of 377 is an important victory. The world sucks a little less today.

Update:

As there are some who try to deny the fact that it is totally a British import law with Christian influence, I would put the Human Rights Watch report the Origins of "Sodomy" Laws in British Colonialism here.

As someone pointed it out the report is a big long and take time to read. I would post a shorter version of Sodomy Law 101 here: Sodomy Laws and Sodomy Law Reform.

Challenge to India gay sex ruling

Quote:

"The ruling was widely and visibly welcomed by India's gay community who said it would protect them from harassment and persecution.
But religious groups from the Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities have come out in strongly opposition."

There was a sodomy law. It was taken off the books in 1997.

However, upon further inspection, you're right. It's not that big of a deal in China. Which really, isn't all that surprising to me considering the major religions in China are Taoism and Buddhism, in which neither are opposed to homosexuality.

"Like I said, a whole set of problems that could be dealed with rationally, without the emotional charged objection from the religious freaks that you see in other part of the world."

This is something in which we agree on entirely, I just wouldn't use the term freaks. :P I think it is absolutely fine for people to be religious and have their own opinions of other people, but when it comes to legal issues they should only be dealt with rationally and not emotionally.
@Matt

The link you added was about Hong Kong. And the sodomy law was also a British (Christian) import. The link was actually about inequality of the age of consent. The actual decriminalization of homosexual sex in Hong Kong was back in 1991. So, the law was repeal (with opposition from the Christians) before the city was handed back to China in 1997.

China, as remain of this day, never had any law that ban homosexual sex. Just get the fact straight. And as far as a very tyrant, human rights violating country goes, China does not have a lot of hangout about gays because there aren't many christians.

As for the freaks thing. If they get into their heads that they could judge and condemn others on stuff that happen in the bedrooms between consenting adults, they are freaks, religious or not.
Ah, so it was. I thought Hong Kong had been handed back over to China before 1997.

Question, why do you only blame Christianity, when all Abrahamic religions appear to be anti-homo?
@Matt

I blamed the British (Christians) influence of all the sodomy laws they impossed on countries they have colonized before.

And that include India and Hong Kong and other places as said in the report.

I do have a whole different sets of problems with Islamic rules and their shariah laws. But I could not blame sodomy law on them because this set of sodomy law in India was a direct product of British (Christians) influence.
K. I was just wondering based on what I've seen you argue about on the ning in general, not just in this particular thread.
That is completely and utterly made of awesome with a side of win. :D

it is good news that the country is making changes to accept it's gay people, even if it is only on paper so far.

but it is not the British or Christian influence that prohibited gay sex.

Yes it is good news.

Yes it was. I have posted the report and Sodomy Law 101 on the first post. The criminal code 377 in India was imposed by the British (Christian) rule back in the colonial days.

Well, outspoken christian leader in GUYANA Roger Williams has strong homophobic response to the win. (Another evidence that Christians spread hatred everywhere for a person like me.)

Homophobic bullsht from Christian leader Roger Williams

Chritians are not only against decriminalization of homosexuality in India, they are against banning of corporal punishment as well. (Again, Christains and their spread of hatred)

Update.

Christian leader Roger Williams in GUYANA have spoken against the court decision.

Here is the homophobic christian leader Roger Williams and his christian bullshit, and yes, he used the hatred filled Prop 8 as an example, but not the way you think.

I don't know where I put this, so I just kind of put it here. (Mostly for Matt)

Light workshop exhibition feature a lesbian artist who lost custody of her children because of the very same sodomy law (British/christian influence) in the US.

http://lightwork.org/exhibitions/past/cnypridefamilies/pridefamilie...

Quote from the site.

"In 1975, I lost custody of my two sons, then seven and six years old, when I came out as a lesbian in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Later I wrote a book of poems, Crime Against Nature, about that experience and our successful struggle to stay connected as mother and children, as "family."

The sodomy statute, the "crime against nature" law, which the state and my husband used to take the children was repealed at a national level only two years ago, in 2006, in the Lawrence decision by the US Supreme Court."

Real christian bullshit and bigotry destroy a lot of lives. It is not a simple case as "just having a religious opinion against gays and lesbians" as they like to put it. The christian religion as a real negative impact of the world that we need to recognize. I don't believe in niceness if it keep the truth from being revealed.
