Is Prostitution Morally Wrong

Many cultures have seen prostitution as a necessary and legitimate service. And some people make the argument that all the ills faced by today's prostitutes are a result of the social outcast status they currently have. What do you think? Please remain respectful and on topic.

* To clarify, I did mean "prostitutes" as those who willingly choose to perform sexual acts for money. I did not intend this discussion to debate on the morality of sexual slavery, child prostitution, or prostitution by the mentally ill.*

Because technically, one of them is not consenting. They have been forced into the agreement by the trading of cash. This is why modification as an industry is wrong, because it is essentially a form of slavery.

Adding cash into the agreement isn't forcing anyone to do anything.  By that logic, today I forced a deli owner to give me a sandwich when I handed him seven bucks.

I depends on where you stand on other issues such as contraceptives and sex outside marriage. Since so many agree that those things are not wrong it ponders me that so many still feel prostitution is immoral. That might of course be because many people who seek out prostitutes are in fact also engaged in a relationship, and then it constitutes cheating which most people don't like very much. But that's not a very good reason though. People cheat, with or without prostitutes.
