People kill animals for different reasons. Some for 'experience', for their meat, and others just because they hate animals. What is your opinion on killing animals?

Some animals are killed for meat. Last time I saw the statistics it was 9 billion animals killed each year for meat! I found that to be too much. I seriously don't see the necessity of meat in one's diet. I mean, hey, if you like it, eat it, but for crying out loud! Don't gorge on it! I think killing animals for meat should be the only reason animals die, and that's only if it's done humanly and for the meat we just need, not to have the equality of a 10 person meal on.
As an animal activist, I see killing animals as pointless slaughter in most situations.
Inhuman horse slaughter, seal clubbing, horse tripping, Asia killing dogs, cats, and everything else for fur, canned hunts (The hunting of wild animals trapped in enclosures), and the list never ends. It's sad, really.
Sorry about my sudden outburst, but I've gone into this matter a lot. If us humans went through what some of these animals have gone through, we would need therapy for a freaking long time. Animals have helped me through life a lot and I love them so much. It's only right I return the favor.
And there are other ways to kill for meat. It's just slaughterhouses don't use them because killing them inhumanly is quicker and brings in more money. In the end it all comes to money for the slaughterhouse owners. That's obviously all the care about, too. I won't get into anything of the sort, because I know some people can't handle hearing about it.
If you want to learn more at all I suggest checking out the HSUS's website. They are VERY informative on the subject of animal abuse in general and you can learn what meat to avoid and how you can sign petitions to stop some stuff.

actually slaughter houses are humane. They use a captive bolt pistol to make the animal 'brain dead' before they kill it by draining the blood. In this way, no pain is felt. Now, of course the HSUS website will point out that some don't follow the rules, however it is important to note that most slaughter houses in the US follow protocol correctly; chicken plants being one of the few examples that i won't defend, as they do not use the captive bolt pistol method used on all other large livestock.

ever been behind a truck going to the slaughter house. ever been on a intensive animal farm? the slaughter might be the best moment of their lives.

what lives? It's not like they've experienced the joy of "running wild" or anything. They were born and raised with a single purpose, and they no nothing of the outside world.

But they still had a life and should have been able to enjoy it. People go to jail for killing babies, and yet people don't even flinch when a baby cow is slaughtered, without a chance to even live. I just find that wrong.

I have! I was researching the role of a pig and so I volunteered for a trip to an intensive animal farm to live as a pig for three days for an animal behavior researcher. The food was terrible, I shared a tiny square with ten of them and I had to rub pig poop over myself... It wasn't all bad though, I learnt lots, I had to witness pig sex and also the slaughter afterwards. It was... an experience. For that last day I got to live with some free range ones, who were a lot less friendly towards each other and me.

True story!

You're hardcore.

Thanks, it was awesome.

I agree. As kind-of-distressing as I find that to be, it's still pretty hardcore.

As a vegetarian and animal lover, I don't think it's right to kill animals. But I hear alot of different ideas behind killing them.
First: The Christianity reason. God put animals on the earth so we could eat them and sustain ourselves. The End.
Second: Overpopulation. People fear that if we do not kill animals their populations will become too large. What about our ever growing population - 6 billion??? If that isn't overpopulating, I don't know what is.
Third: Food. If we only ate vegetation, there wouldn't be enough food to go around. Also, the animals that we don't eat would need food too, so where would we get food for them?

In short, I haven't been able to come up with a clear reason.
