Nerdfighters

m currently in 5th year at secondary school in Scotland. For a higher english personal study I chose to write about Looking For Alaska, and I have loads of great ideas to write about. There's just one problem. I CAN'T THINK OF A TASK! (For those of you who don't know, that's basically just the idea of what you're going to write about)
It would be really great if someone could help me!

Thanks guys

Write about how it is an awful book, and the only reason it ever saw the light of day was because some publisher decided it was the sort of drivel teenagers like to read. Write about how the characters are profoundly unspecial, and the story doesn't really go anywhere. Just a bunch of kids drinking, smoking, watching porn and getting blown and then one dies and the reader tries to think of a reason why he should care.
Well, the publisher was damn right. It is the sort of 'drivel' teenagers like to read!
I'm with Brittney. And for the record, that made me tear up a bit.
Wow. Why the hell are you here? Honestly. . Just because you fail to see the greatness of that novel, doesn't mean the rest of us do. You are wasting your time and our time by being a part of this community. Oh, and just for the record, looking down on a country because they "generally suck" is an incredibly close-minded thing. Good day.
It's an inside joke among Canadians. We don't actually hate you. We just say we do because we just wish you paid more ATTENTION TO US! PAY ATTENTION! US!

I don't like Looking for Alaska. It was very very disappointing. John Green rules. I just don't think he wrote a very good book there. I haven't read his other two yet because L4Z was SOOOO BAAAAD! Miles was so very NOT ANYTHING like Holden Caulfield.
Miles is not supposed to be Holden. The review referred to Holden's spirit. While it can be found in Mile's thought process and occasional demeanor (eg, when he feels strong emotion, especially when he becomes angry about Alaska's death), it is better found in Alaska. She is the modern, female embodiment of the basic ideas behind Holden--misunderstood, lonely, and occasionally reckless.
Why in the world are you here?

O_o

It's such and amazing book and it's definitely much better than the majority of books not aimed at teenagers, not to mention young adult fiction.

So someone who disagrees with the importance of a book "doesn't belong here?"  People are different, and will have different opinions on what they think is a good book and what is a book that is fit for leveling out coffee tables.  I found the book to be boring and dry, and only read it beause I found it in a "free book bin"

Don't be so close minded.

Why must characters be special in order for books to be good?
I've just realized that you replied to my questions on your Alaska opinions on that other thread ... can you be more specific? What, exactly, was stilted and unrealistic? Have you read John's other novels, and if so, do you hold the same views in regard to them? Do you have any novels to recommend that you think give an accurate depiction of teenagers and their lives, where the characters are "special" and the story "goes somewhere"?

What do you think of the themes of Alaska? Or do you seriously think it's about smoking, drinking, watching porn and blowjobs?

I don't think Alaska should be above criticism, by the way. I ask so many questions because on two occasions now, you've just randomly put your negative views on the book into a thread and so far, I feel like you haven't backed your views up. So I'm curious.
I started my own thread about this so as not to hijack.

YOU probably just are on the ning to trol and spread your little angry octopus ness everywhere.
