i must say i am quite confused at the moment about ' love ' it seems to be one of those words in my life that it always said to me but has far to many meanings for me to understand! when you say you ' love ' a color or a animal it is completely different from when you say you 'love' your mum or your brother but this is equally different from when you say you ' love ' a boy or a girl.

well all I'm saying is that this is far too confusing! personally i think we should be like the french and have different words for each of these meanings, would make things so much simpler :)

anyone agree ?

yeah, but it's pretty much just three different types.
there's love of affection, purely physical love, and love that has both affection and physical feelings.
this is how i differentiate them though.

I like the ancient Greek way.

Ancient cultures FTW!

So....Thelema is lust, so to speak, whereas Eros is romance (more or less) whether or not it involves sexual attraction?

Yes, basically.

Go Greeks! Woot!

yes it does! must say the greeks fair do have it down don't they :P so i bet greeks find it very very easy to understand what someone means!

Yes, it does get very vague and confusing. What makes it worse is that love can not only be used to describe various levels of physical attraction, mental, or both, but people's ideas as to what constitutes the word love in each situation is also extraordinarily undefined.

Personally, I'm on the side of the Greeks, they had it right (Types of Greek love described in earlier posts!)

love is..well I can give you a really cheesy definition, as I've recently had a brush with what you'd call "falling in love", but I doubt you're interested :D

People's definitions of love are very confusing. You'll hear some one say they love a boy or girl they know and what they really mean is that they enjoy their personality and enjoy being their friend but probably have no romantic feelings for them. In fact, when they do have romantic feelings for someone they say they like them. And it's just weird. lol

Generally if I'm talking about a person I use the word love sparingly, even if I do love them, and I define love as having a strong affection and admiration for someone and caring about them and being concerned about their life and what's going on in it. Also thinking I would die for them, but I never want to say this out loud because I'm afraid that if it comes to that I'll be a coward and save myself. :\ When it comes to romantic love I have the same feelings as just loving people, but of course with a more "I want to share my entire life with you and be able to come to you for physical comfort (like hugs! I hate hugs, I need a man I'm not afraid to hug xD)" passion-type thoughts. If that makes any sense.

There sure are a great deal of different meaings for the word love in the English lanuage. I agree with you that we should have different words for the different meanings.
