Nerdfighters

This is for both the ladies and gents.

Hank's makeup tutorial video the other day sparked a bit of curiosity for me; applying makeup routinely is obviously a very common thing. I know people who won't leave the house without it, and then on the contrary, I know people who find it a major turn-off. Personally, I do like to put on a tad bit if I'm going out somewhere, but only enough to compliment natural features (especially just a touch of eyeliner, maybe a little mascara. Whatevs).

I'm certainly not a fan of when people cake on layers and layers of foundations, concealers, blush, eyeshadow, what have you. There's no point in completely covering up natural beauty-- and it usually ends up looking worse than a completely fresh face anyway.

What's your opinion on it? :]

Because I live in Florida, I forego makeup during the summer except on special occasions. I'll occasionally do a little eyeliner and lip gloss, but I'm usually a chapstick-and-sunscreen girl for six out of twelve months. During our "fall" and "winter" (if you can even call them that) I wear makeup more often, but never much unless it's Halloween or I've decided to do crazy goth makeup and freak out the old people in my neighborhood.

The only times I've ever worn a combination of heavy foundation, bright blush, thick liner, eyeshadow, powder, mascara, and lipstick are the times I've had theatrical performances. I really, really hate stage makeup. >./body>
Oh hey, I live in Florida too! haha. And oh my god, I completely understand the stage makeup hate. I'm also a huge theatre geek, and it is (usually) thick and awful and such a pain to get off at the end of the night... especially for some of the shows I've done where I've had to look older, or paler, or sunken and dead.
Ugh, so true! I've had to go to cast parties looking like a tramp or a babydoll because I couldn't get my makeup off. Yick! I feel so sorry for actors who do outdoor theatre in the summer -- it must be miserable.
I usually just go directly from the show to the cast party, sometimes in full makeup and costume (depending on if the costumes belonged to the theatre or not, of course). Which make me get a lot of weird looks sometimes, I have to admit. And ugh, summer theatre is horrendous. In May I was in Rent the musical for the Orlando Fringe Festival, and we did a lot of outdoor advertising at fundraising and art events over the city. Most of the time it was raining and hot, and we had to dress as though we were in New York... in winter. Haha.
I'm just going to randomly interject that I'm so jelous you got to do Rent. It's always been one of my favorites. The acting community in my town is fairly hard to break into, but I've finally gotten into a show!
I don't wear a whole lot of make up but I do use a little foundation and powder. I have a feeling I won't when I get older and I don't have the curse of teenage skin. I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing make up as long as it's done tastefully. DFTBA!
Nay most of the time.
When I'm going to teach, I use Wet 'n' Wild Sheer Tinted Moisturizer and Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer in Fig. I feel like it makes me look a little bit more professional. But that's about as made up as I get.
I'd prefer if it was just never worn... but I can see why a bit of it would be nice. When it's like you said -- just a bit of highlighting or accentuating or whatever -- that's fine, but I hate when it's just piled on...
I have skin that needs a little bit of concealer, just to cover the dark bags under my eyes and to get rid of unsightly blemishes, and I like wearing eyeliner. But, I do have to admit that I really don't get people who insist on putting layers and layers of foundation on, and pile on mascara and eyeshadow, until the point where they can barely open their eyes. Do they know they look like tramps? If not, someone should really tell them.
I agree! By the way, for dark bags under your eyes, I completely suggest doing caffeine eye presses in the mornings. If you take a bit of ground coffee and put it in a folded paper towel (or anything to hold the grounds together), run it under warm water, and rest it on your eyes (maybe even gently wipe them), it helps tremendously. Concealer can actually make it worse over time... I used to have such bad circles that people thought I had smudged eyeliner everywhere, haha. They're a lot better now. :)
I don't really wear make-up on normal days. 1.I'm too lazy to put it on. 2. I personally think it should be saved for special occasions :) I don't really think it is a bad idea to put on a little make-up on a normal day (as long as it still look natural :D), I just don't do it.
