Nerdfighters

A few weeks ago, my family got a chance to meet John Green at Anderson's Bookstore in Naperville, IL. I was all prepared to be witty and wry, to tell him about the symbolism in his books (which I read all within one week, right before the meetup). I wanted to ask deep questions about his flawed, bi-polar heroines. Instead, I got all gushy, talked about his hair being at half-puff, barely remembered to get his signature on the books (and a Disney princess autograph book for the kidlets), and had to be reminded to tell him I liked his books (by my husband). Later, my daughters mocked me mercilessly and told me I can no longer meet famous people if I freeze up like that.

So, anyone else meet John (or Hank) and handle it with grace (or like I did)?

When I met them in Westport,I was a mess.
Hell, after John signed my books, I said "Thank you J-Scribble"
I barely got anything in to say to Hank

Man, I am soooo not alone then. I wonder if he knows that he's famous enough to cause that?

Oh belive me... you are NOT alone! I had so much to say to John and questions to ask, but when it came down to actually seeing him... in front of me... and him acknowledging that I do exist, and him confirming to me that he is indeed real... I just froze up.

I actually was recording him this whole time, so that might have added to the general nervousness and excitement. Plus, I've seen videos similar to mine where John is like.. "Are you recording this? Oh no, now I'm nervous." Haahaha. But, I still enjoyed meeting them. It was definitely worth it.

(BTW, my embarassing video is on my profile!)

Man, I don't know what I'd do if Hank was there. Or Maureen. Probably just turn red and pee my pants :)

I did that when I met Maureen Johnson! I was really close to convulsing. I'm horrible with meeting people. Haha

Oh wow, meeting Maureen Johnson would be so fun!

It's different than meeting a rock star--like, one time I got to touch Rick Springfield. He was sweaty. But it is like crushing on someone's grey matter. Totally a different vibe :)

No, I haven't met him, but really wish I could have. I looked up his tour schedule after he'd left Atlanta.
I think I'd handle the situation similarly, though.
Definitely.
Haha.
I'd be too ecstatic to remember my plans. I mean it's strange, because as a reader (and a nerdfigher), you feel that you have this special connection with the author/the brothers...And yet really they had no idea who you were...Until now! Haha.

How were they? Were they friendly and appreciative and eager to answer your questions? Seems like they would be.

John was very nice and gracious and sweet to my daughters - and willing to pose with the crazy mommy in a picture :)
