Meeting John Green

A few weeks ago, my family got a chance to meet John Green at Anderson's Bookstore in Naperville, IL. I was all prepared to be witty and wry, to tell him about the symbolism in his books (which I read all within one week, right before the meetup). I wanted to ask deep questions about his flawed, bi-polar heroines. Instead, I got all gushy, talked about his hair being at half-puff, barely remembered to get his signature on the books (and a Disney princess autograph book for the kidlets), and had to be reminded to tell him I liked his books (by my husband). Later, my daughters mocked me mercilessly and told me I can no longer meet famous people if I freeze up like that.

So, anyone else meet John (or Hank) and handle it with grace (or like I did)?

During the Question Tuesday part, I said something along the lines of: "Am I missing blogTV for this?" And they laughed and I felt so proud of myself, but then I was like "Why am I even here? Hmm?"

Hank: "Well, there is one thing you can't do on blogTV..."

Hank: Who is this for?
Me: *blank stare* It's for me...
Hank: Yes, and you are?
This is when I realized that I hadn't given him my name and was expecting him to draw it out of my mind using psychic powers. I felt pretty stupid. The people at the library where they were signing gave everyone a sticky note to write our names on so that Hank and John would have an easier time spelling them correctly. I gave John my sticky note so he didn't have to ask for my name, but I forgot to give it to Hank. Gah, oh well.; ▶ Reply to This
