Nerdfighters

(I hope that this is in the right place...)

Anywho. Any Nerdfighters taking part in NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, this year?

If you don't know what it is, NaNo is a little challenge founded by Chris Baty back in 1999. Your mission? Write 50,000 words in the month of November. It can be about whatever floats your boat, and there are only two rules: 1) Don't start writing before 12:00:00 AM on November 1st, and 2) You cannot partner up with another person and co-write something. Otherwise, you've got free range.

NaNo 2009 will be my third NaNo, seventh WriMo (Writing Month. As in, an event identical to NaNo, except it occurs in a different month), and I'm stoked for this year. If you're thinking about doing NaNo, I'd be glad to give you any advice you may need now or along the way in November. :)

Veterans? Newbies? Who's with me?

EDIT: I should have mentioned. If you want to add me as buddy on the NaNo site, you'll find me here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/200794

I'm with you!
I'm also a total newby, I've never done anything like this before, never written anything amounting to 50,000 words that isn't fanfic... So I'm up for a challenge. Since I like challenges, that's not so bad.

Same, I've never tried to do anything remotely like this before.

Here's hoping it goes well?

I think we ought to establish some kind of nerdfighter-NanNoWriMo support group for the wee hours of the morning when you're still up writing XD

Yes! That would be wonderful! I love talking to other writers when I can barely keep my eyes open. It helps to have someone to commiserate with.

And break a leg, guys. It's awesome that you're gonna try it out. :)

I am a veteran drop out. I have actually started to think in advance this time and am seriously contemplating doing it.

I might try but I've got a ton of other, not as interesting things to do :p college...

I know what you mean, though I absolutely love my classes (university, not college), it does take up too much time. But there's always lunch breaks and the end of the evening when you've got to wind down and travel time (for me at least, I take a train every day) etc. etc...

I'm in. This will be my first time trying, hopefully it goes well.

One question; can I work on a novel that's already been started (by started I mean like 4 chapters in)? Or does it have to be brand new...

Sorry, you've got to start the writing on 01-11, no cheating.

That's fine. I was just trying to decide if I wanted to write this story I've been thinking about writing for a long time, but never have. Or if I should continue with the one I mentioned. I'll just write the one I haven't started. Thanks for replying!

You can work on something you've already started, but you can't include any of the words you've already written. Say you're about five thousand words along on a project and want to keep working on it for NaNo. That's totally okay, as long as you don't include that original 5k in your word count.

Oh, cool. Not sure which one I'll do then. Hmm...

I'm a newbie and I've signed up and I can't wait for November!

You say that this is your third NaNo and seventh WriMo, how many times did you win? Have you actually written seven novels?! Are you trying to get published?

My username is tweak3 in case anyone wants to be my writing buddy. Can't wait to get started! :)
