Hey Nerdfighters. My name is Nicki, a university student from Utah, and this semester I am taking a class on folklore and folk culture. For my term project I have to do a collection project, collecting and analysing several pieces of folklore from one particular folkgroup. And I have chosen the Nerdfighters :)
So this is where I need your help. I need about a dozen people who would be willing to do interviews via email or instant-messenger (or if by some strain of luck you’re one of the like three nerdfighters from my area then we could do it in person) talking about the folk culture of Nerdfighteria (i.e. customs, vocabulary, calendar events, games, jokes, myths or legends or stories, superstitions, material culture, recipes, etc.) Basically if you’d be willing to send me a quick email talking about some aspect of what sort of culture is involved in being a Nerdfighter, please let me know, either in comments below or by sending me a direct message here. I only have about two weeks to complete this project (darn short summer semesters...) so this is a bit urgent.
Thank you so much in advance for everyone who is willing to lend me a hand and help me not fail out of my own Minor, and also just a thanks to all Nerdfighters for being this made of awesome community that has inspired my life and outlook so completely that an introvert like me is actually willing to get up in front of a class and expound on the glory of being a nerd.
P.S. As a quick example, a few of the aspects I was considering writing on were:
- "The Project for Awesome" as a calender custom.
- "The Blurbing Book Club" as a a collaborative game.
- "Happy Dancing" as a group custom.
- "DFTBA" as a group proverb.
Any more you can think of would be great, thanks again.
Thanks but because I didn't get any replies I had to change topics. :( So much for my big project of getting nerdfighteria into my uni's archives. Oh well.
