And it's alright; most people don't.  Because of CPS work, Social Workers aren't particularly popular.  I expect we need a reality TV show or something.

heh, maybe.

as much as the generalities suck for workers like you though, i'd imagine the reality has to suck for the too.  one goes in as this hopeful nerdfighter, with goals of helping people and decreasing worldsuck, and it puts them at odds with half the people they're trying to help: fighting for the well being of children puts them at odds with parents, fighting for women, at odds with sig others, etc.

Hi everyone!

I'm, uh, really bad at introducing myself.  Mainly because I wouldn't want to give an inaccurate picture, so I end up writing a novel.  So I'm just going to say...

I'm from Michigan (America's High Five), currently studying Mathematics and Computer Science at Michigan Tech and planning on teaching high school after I graduate.  I'm an avid swing dancer (almost three years, woot!), musician (trumpet, singing, un poco piano), composer, playwright (yes, I HAVE written a play!  And yes, it HAS been performed!), artist, actor, technophilic luddite (yeah, sort that one out), and at least slightly interested in just about every academic subject ever invented.  I run Linux (Ubuntu, specifically) and write computer programs for fun.  Je parle un peu de Français (very un peu - don't ever expect me to respond en Français) and I'm allegedly teaching myself Latin, but... procrastination strikes again.  I enjoy linguistics, history, philosophy, and all forms of geometry that make you say, "Wait, what's a straight line again?"

Thems is my nerd-credentials (nerdentials?) - hopefully it's not to novelic.  I also sometimes deliberately use improper grammar and make up new words because making Grammar Nazis squirm is oh so much fun.  Incidentally, I am a Grammar Nazi.

I like "nerdentials" as a new term.  Also, I wrote a novel just a little above yours, as I have the same issue.

 

Oh my goodness, "technophilic luddite"!  Yes, that is me as well!  Some strange combination of adore and abhor that fits just right into the brain place.

That's crazy, I'm like the exact opposite. I can't write music for the life of me but I play instruments well.

heh.  i'm great, and don't sweat it, i'm even more exclusively vocal.  the important thing is that one appreciates music and it's ability to enrich the human spirit.  that's remembering to be awesome...imo.
