Permalink Reply by Kieran Franklin on May 23, 2011 at 8:41pm Hello Nerdfighteria!
My name's Kieran, I'm 20 years old and I'm from England. I'm in my second year at Durham University studying Zoology, and I'm pretty new to being a Nerdfighter.
My first introduction to anything Nerdfighter related was when one of my old school friends posted John's 'Sheen or Gadaffi' Truth or Fail video on his wall. I found it entertaining, but, failing to look at the name of the channel, I thought John must be slightly insane as he'd addressed the viewer as Hank. I didn't subscribe or look at any other videos or anything.
Then, a couple of weeks later, a completely unrelated friend posted Hank's 'Japan's Nuclear Disaster Explained' video on her wall, and I noticed that he addressed the viewer as John, which reminded me of the video I'd seen before, so I had a look at the channel and, lo and behold, they turned out to be brothers.
You might find that whole story pointless but I found it interesting that I was introduced to Hank and John's videos completely independently and the only way I associated them with one another was the way they start their videos.
Anyway, since stumbling upon the vlogbrothers, I've gradually gotten into more and more Nerdfighter YouTube channels like weezywaiter, elmify and of course charlieissocoollike, among others, and I've even been working my way through thisisnottom.com. I think the Nerdfighter community as a whole is brilliant, and the fact that so much good has come out of it (e.g. the Project For Awesome) is fantastic. I look forward to getting involved!

*waves*
I'm not exactly new to Nerdfighting, but I'm brand new to the Ning. I'm really hoping to make some nerdfighter friends because you all are made of so much awesome and I need some actually decent people in my life.
I'm in med school, I heart Harry Potter and Dr. Horrible, I just finished Paper Towns and am pretty sure it changed my life...Errrrr.. I'm no good at intros, but I'll try to be around lots to get to know you guys!

My name is Sonya - and most of you don't know me as Sonya...?
My friend Jim got me into the Vlogbrothers earlier this year. And now we have our own anime/manga/fandom review vlog called CatbusCrossing. :3 We're terrible right now! :DDDDDD
I'm 24 - a student - a worker - a bitchloverchildmother...not really. Though I am a studentworkerchild. I was born - not hatched.
I've veered off topic...
OH! I'm a nerd because I like computers, anime, researching, manga, museums, science, art, literature, and all humanities. I was - and still am - really good in school. I want to be a lawyer. And I want to get better at being a graphic artist/web designer/desktop support person.
Mew.
Permalink Reply by David Addison Myers on May 24, 2011 at 11:38am Hi everyone I'm David. I'm 21, I'm doing a degree in Product Design at the Univeristy of Sussex just outside Brighton. I was first exposed to the vlog brothers by one of my coworkers during my summer job last year collecting door to door for two charities. At first having only heard a rough description of the vidoes I dismissed thema s the usual Yout tube filler but than after watching one video I proceeded to watch them all and have been engrossed since then. I'm an enormous book and televisions nerd probably spending far to much time with both forms of entertainment and I am as a neccessity of my degree pretty into design and engineering.
That being said, I feel like an enormous betrayer of the inherent egalitarain ehtos of nerdfighteria but I am in need of you help and I am pretty much forcing my problems on you all.
One of my courses, "Design for Commnity" requires I write a research report on a community and try my best to optimaise the services and resources it uses.
As you can no doubt imagine this is no small task and I have decided to use nerfighteria as my subject. I am in depserate need of user interviews and statements, so if any of you would like to help do you mind:
Telling me a bit about your interaction with nerdfighteria as a community,
Which of the many service do you use to interact with it and your fellow nerfighters e.g. do you post your own video responses on youtube, do you use the your pants forum, or do you simply shout into crowded rooms hoping to find other nerdfighters?
What would you like to see added that would improve your experience? This being a pretty savy community you all probably have tonnes of ideas and they are all about a month away form fruition.
What would you be willing to change to make nerdfighteria an even more efficient, environmentaly sustainable and socially responsible community. I know that is a pretty heavily loaded question but I am also meant to examine how permaculture could be applied to the community I am studying so it helps to know how you all might be willing to change.
I would sincerely appreciate any responses and you would win my undying gratitude and a favor in the South of England.
Best wishes

I just posted my respose below and scrolled up, expecting to see all introductions from America, then I see you! Living near Brighton, just like I do!
I think that your project sounds exciting, you should make a new thread about it somewhere, so lots of people can contribute!

Even though I am currently in my basement/bedroom lair with no one around I figured I should let you all know: this is a little intimidating! Well my name is Meg, Mega Monster is just my favorite nickname. I am 18, I live in Michigan. I am a to be freshemn in college this fall and was deprived of all things awesome as a child. My mother told me Pokemon was satanic as one of the biggest examples. So I believe this gives me a right to geek out as a college student and as a teacher :D which is what I aspire to be one day. Um. I love Dr. Who, Harry Potter, Pokemon, playing my saxophone, traveling, reading comic books (particualarly the Green lantern but I am open to others) My favorite color is green and I hope you will be my friend :D Visit my Tumblr or my page to learn even more terribly exciting things about me and my life :D (sarcasm. but seriously you should swing by :))
Permalink Reply by Graw on May 24, 2011 at 6:33pm Heh. Hello. Um.. yes! I am new here!
I... don't know what to say! Ahhhh! People are hard to talk to! Heheheh.
Permalink Reply by Katy Marie Travis on May 25, 2011 at 7:11pm Right. I am new here, so I guess I'll introduce myself!
My name is Katy, I live in the UK where it has been unusually warm this year, despite all of the snow before Christmas.
I have never been one for labels and frankly, until recently (when I began playing the Dungeons and Dragons Pen and Paper Role Playing game, became in touch with my inner furry, and watching the WHOLE Star Trek Voyager series in a number of days) I wouldn't have even considered calling myself a nerd because of all of the labeling I delt with as a kid. I realise that it's not all bad, and within a community, it's okay to use labels because they are trems of enderement, not insults!
The list of things that I do that I consider to be quite nerdy are as follows;
-Playing pen and paper roleplaying games
-Playing World of Warcraft
-Suffering from GOTI syndrome (Girl on the internet syndrome)
-Watching Star Trek Voyager (and desperately wanting to dress like/be Captian Janeway)
-Reading random comic books that I pick up cheap from my local store
-Collecting first gen Pokémon cards
-Reading a lot
-Also owning an awful lot of audio books
-Knowing damn near all of the BBC radio series of The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy thanks to my audio books and official script
-Playing quite a few instruments and trying to write songs about the above nerdy things
There may be more but my poor brain can't deal with any more listing!
Anyway, that is me introduced!

Permalink Reply by Zachary Mendiola on May 27, 2011 at 8:32pm Well, I'm new here!
Names Zachary, or Zack for short. Live in a small town called Williams and it can get VERY BORING here...I mean watching the weeds grow, the cows roam and rabbits run boring. Right now, I'm praying the desk doesn't blow over from the wind.
I've always, aways, ALWAYS been called a nerd, dork and a few other names. Never really knew why till I really looked at what I liked. I'm a gamer and been one since I was five. Interested in the Paranormal stuff, use to collect comics, love movies like TRON, Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice....heck the list can go on there and I use to play some tabletops and TCGs during high school. I sometimes scare myself for what I know about certin things. For example, I ranted to a good friend of mine about a certin show's season and how and why it was bad and what had happened behind the scenes of it.....all off the top of my head. Yeah, that scared me >->
Could explain but, better if ya saw yourself.
Hope to make many friends on here!
Permalink Reply by David Bishop on May 28, 2011 at 5:29am Hey, I'm David, and I'm here to introduce myself.
I live in the Uk, more specifically Northern Ireland. I live out in the country side surrounded by cows and sheep and horses, I live next to a cow filled field, and they're actually quite friendly once you get to know them. I also am the happy owner, of two dogs and three cats, though it used to be more, due to a mixture of deaths and vanishings it had dropped.
I'm not really that nerdy, but I am becoming more so.
The current nerdisms about myself:
- I read, a lot.
- Ever since I started watching it, I try to never miss an episode of Doctor Who.
- I watch anime, and read manga a lot.
- Forbidden Planet is one of my favourite places to be.
- I pick up comic books at random from the newsagents. I need to start collecting them more regularly.
- I'm a big fan of, Buffy, X-Files and Torchwood.
- Frankenstein was the creator of the creature, not the creature's name.
- I adore H.P Lovecraft's writing.
- Another of my favourite places to be is a second hand bookshop in Belfast, which has an amazing Sci-fi Fantasy section
My nerdiness seems to expand daily however, so enjoy.

Hello Nerdfighters,
My name is Kathy, I just finished my second year of college and I think the whole concept of Nerdfighters rocks.
I happened upon the fantastic vlogbrothers about a month ago and instantly was drawn to their humor, sincerity and nerdyness (which should be a word).
I'm a theatre kid, having been acting in school productions since I was 10 and in the recent years trying tech as well.
I like irish dance and dance in general. I'm still working on what my ideal happy dance is... :)
Doodling is a constant in my life- in every single class, on paper and/or on my hand/arm. I love art.
"how art thou?" and "fare thee well" are both phrases I sometimes use, usually out loud.
Pushing Daises, Dead Like Me and Firefly are all awesome shows.
Ludo is one of my favorite bands (they did "Love Me Dead"), Ludovico Einaudi is awesome, too.
Mika is the only artist that I can listen to when upset, and literally stop crying. "Everybody's gonna love today, gonna love today"
Like John Green's "manic pixie dream girl" characters? then you probably like the book Stargirl too.
I love blowing bubbles, especially at concerts, in subways, downtown or at random, which results in people's moods instantly being lifted and the most businessy of people on the streets smiling.
So yes, in general I love life. Doesn't mean I am happy 24/7, as no one truly is, but it's the simple things that keep us going.
Feel free to message me,
~Kathy
