Permalink Reply by Annisha M. on November 12, 2011 at 6:31pm Hi..I'm Annisha. I just moved to the US about a month ago. I got started on Nerdfighters when I randomly came across the Vlogbrothers through other YouTubers, and was hooked ever since :). What makes me a nerd? Hmm..when I come to think of it, not very much, other than an unhealthy addiction to Harry Potter, but I do always fight for nerds!
My favorite band is My Chemical Romance, and there's a second place tie between Mindless Self Indulgence and SUMO CYCO.
My favorite musician is eddplant <3
My favorite books are Harry Potter, Paper Towns and The Hunger Games.
My favorite video game is Portal 2.
I love to sing and draw :)
I think that's it!

Permalink Reply by Sarah on November 12, 2011 at 7:40pm Hello, I'm a 17-year-old Nerdfighter. I joined this site a couple of months ago, but I only found this thread just now. I adore the vlogbrothers, and I love what they stand for. They inspire me so much because they recognize the importance of doing the little things that make the world better--not just the big, miraculous things. Before I found them this past June, I had always felt guilty for being such a content, mellow, low-key person with no real ambitions. Honestly, the thing I want to do most with my life is to be a person with, well, Nerdfighterly values. :)
I think that John is a magician in that I thoroughly enjoy reading his books, and I honestly don't like to read otherwise. I read both Looking For Alaska and Paper Towns in a week (not the same one though, haha); however, An Abundance of Katherines wasn't quite as good and took about three weeks to get through. Anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to The Fault in our Stars (which, of course, I have pre-ordered), and I fully intend to devour it. Really, though, I'm not a very good reader. However, I do also love The Catcher in the Rye.
Other than that, what makes me a nerd? Well, I love to goof off and be silly even when others are around, I know very little about the latest celebrity gossip, and I really do like having intelligent conversations with people. Mostly, though, I consider myself a nerd because I am "too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness." (Seriously, I am! I loved John's description of that more than his "I notice you'd rather be intelligent..." definition of a nerd.)
On another note, I have watched every single video, and I love seeing how far John and Hank have come in the past approaching-five years. So yeah, feel free to say hi to me! I don't know a single person on here. :P
Permalink Reply by MK Flynn on November 12, 2011 at 7:51pm Hi!! I'm MK. I'm a college freshman... studying fashion design. I kind of hate saying that because for as long as I've known what a nerd is, I've taken pride in being one. But my reason for going into fashion design (besides my love of art and just making things in general) is somewhat nerdy: I want to be a costume designer. I love movies, literature, theater, and history, and I think that combining those passions with my love of art and making things and with my skill in sewing would work perfectly in costume design.
Anyway, besides being a design student, I also have a wide range of interests that prove how nerdy I am. I am obsessed with stories, meaning (as I mentioned above) that I love movies, books, theater, history, and anything else that tells a story. I also like writing stories, although despite a lot of planning for my stories, I don't normally get far past the first page. (Unfortunately, this happens a lot, so I actually have over fifty unfinished stories. I tried counting a few years ago, but I have lost count and have come up with new stories since then.) As far as my artistic interests, I not only like to sew and design things, but I love drawing, painting, making jewelry, learning about famous artists, and going to museums and galleries. Also, I absolutely love trivia, and I was the alternate on my high school's trivia team last year. (I wish I could be on a trivia team again. I know there's a college level quiz bowl tournament, but my college is so small that we don't have a team, and I am so shy that I'd find it difficult to come up with a team -ignoring the fact that my school actually has a deadline of when a student organization has to be created by and that that deadline was in September.)
Also, I feel it is necessary to note that I have a bit of an obsession with fantasy. Most of that obsession originates from Harry Potter and from fairy tales (but not just Disney fairy tales; as much as I love Disney, I find the originals much more interesting). I consider myself a Ravenclaw -although I don't know about on Pottermore, because I missed the beta thing and they didn't open it to the public yet. I talk about all fantasy things as though they are real, although I know very well of the high improbability of them not being real except for in the imaginations of many. I also like to research the history of fantasy creatures and what people believed of them before pop culture took over the fantasy world.
Lastly, I found out about nerdfighters through youtube (sort of obviously). Over the summer, my friend showed my charlieissocoollike videos on youtube, and as I watched more of them on my own, I noticed that he talked about nerdfighters a few times. Although I was curious, I didn't really understand that I could pursue finding out what nerdfighters are until I found the vlogbrothers on youtube a few days ago.
I'm sorry that my post was really long, but I have trouble being concise.

Permalink Reply by Miguel Martinez on November 12, 2011 at 10:00pm I am Miguel. I just discovered NerdFighters today at the Quidditch World Cup, and I liked what I saw. One thing led to another and I joined. Hope to have some good times.
