Nerdfighters

I just watched a documentary about octomom and I was frankly horrified at people’s reactions to her. There were people saying that she's paying for nannies etc. from government funds and how this was terrible and we shouldn't have to pay for people like that to go around having loads of babies. This isn't even true but I would be fine with it if it was, it seems perfectly reasonable to me for the government, who are there to protect and serve the people of their country, to support someone who is in no position to earn the kind of money she needs to look after her children.

But this isn't even the case, she is earning her living entirely from media attention. So people go on about how she is using her children and she shouldn't be allowed to spend money that should be the children's. She had to go to court because people thought the money should be kept safe and then given to the children when they’re 18, as if they'll thank you when they grow up without enough money to eat. Basically it doesn't matter where the money comes from, she'll be hated anyway because he didn't work for it and the american psyche says its wrong to help someone who can’t help themselves, everyone has to make their own way.

It reminds me of something that happened to me last year, I came into school and my friend said to me something along the lines of "Have you heard an immigrant family's been given a 6 bedroom council house worth half a million pounds" I instantly responded "Seriously? Wow that great!" the disgusted look on my friends face told me I'd said something wrong. I didn't get it, all that sprang to mind was that a family's life had been massively improved, but no, I later found out that we're supposed to hate them because they came from another country and got a house paid for by our taxes. So what? It's not made your life any worse but it’s made their live a hell of a lot better.

This is getting kinda long so I'm gonna wrap it up. Basically all this irrational hate in the world is making me lose faith in mankind, and if anyone is likely understand that helping people out is good, surely it's the nerdfighters, so tell me what you think, about octomom and government aid and why people freaking love to hate other people so much.

Because she stole our hard earned tax money to blow on herself. I work hard, and I don't appreciate people like her stealing tax money because she's too lazy to say "you want fries with that?"

Obsessed? Hardly. People post silly nonsense on forums and play video games for hours, wasting time. We happen to be trying to save 14 innocent lives and put a fraud out of business in our spare time. Most of us work full time, some 2 jobs, some are students, many are parents, some are retired. And while we're sitting at our desk or taking a break, we log on and try to bring down a fraud. You want to see obsessed, look at someone who paid $100,000 to have 14 kids she couldn't feed. Look at someone who admit she spent $100,000 CASH on IVF while not bothering to pay the rent for 10 months and collecting $600 food stamps. Would you qualify for food stamps if you had $100,000 cash in your account? I don't freaking think so. Real poor people went hungry because of this lazy selfish fraud.

Oh and, do you know how many times she leaves the kids with babysitters while she goes shopping, to Disneyland (alone), and gets manicures, while the kids wear wore out used clothes? She left the octuplets alone in ICU to get her nails done. Nurses begged her to install safety equipment... instead she bought a hot tub for her bedroom and a 70" plasma, never did install the safety. Real concerned for the kids there. Those kids have been hurt more than once because of her selfishness.

i don't know any of those things, i have only seen the channel 4 documentary. even if it's true there are worse things out there and i'd be more upset about rich people not paying taxes and exploiting workers.

Agreed, there are worse things, and I agree about the rich not paying taxes. But, this is something that we feel we can make a difference in. So many children have been lost because the state didn't step in when they could have, it's time to say enough is enough. There have been numerous 911 calls from that house, the most recent being a call saying that a small child drank an unknown substance and was violently vomiting non stop. FORTY police responded. Only to find out that he drank salt water from a volcano kit and spit up a little. One infant was bitten by an older child, while she watched and laughed. One child showed up to school with a black eye and bruises. She claims he "fell and hit the table". There's photos of her lifting an infant by the wrist. There's a photo of her holding a baby under each arm, barely keeping them from falling to the concrete.... so she can carry a starbucks in each hand. There's photos of her holding an infant with it's head flopped back. She dropped one at the park. The babysitter dropped the 3 year old on the concrete. The kids are more than 30 minutes late to school every day. Even in the documentary, she films the 6 year old sucking on a pacifier, humiliating him. It's just so infuriating, that's all.

I respect others opinion on her, I just want to make sure they have a fully informed opinion =)

well, that makes sense. there seem to be very different opinions.
i am not saying that channel 4 is perfect but as a rule they produce good documentaries.

as for the pacifier incident; i can think of a lot worse, like a father dangling his toddler over a lionden at the zoo saying" i am going to throw you in"

wow, a six bedroom house? there's six people in my family and we got put into an 1000 sq foot apartment with three bedrooms. despite the fact that there are three girls and one boy, the laws here state that there can be two people to a bedroom regardless of gender or age (or bedroom size) , so we only qualify for a 3 bedroom apartment. we should move to england.

btw, how large was the family? if the law is the same where you live then there must be 11-12 of them.
