Nerdfighters

On Tumblr, I saw that people were planning on wearing purple on the 20th to commemorate the 6 boys who killed themselves because of anti-gay bullying. I would totally do this, except I wear a school uniform and I usually wear purple accessories because I like the color, so I wouldn't be able to do anything noticeable. So, I was thinking, why not do a purple ribbon? All it would have to be is a piece of purple ribbon twisted into a loop and pinned onto something, even just your backpack, to raise awareness of how badly some gay kids are bullied. It's something easy that you can do to get people to show some respect.

Indeed. I mentioned this to a gay friend of mine. I may be able to convince him to do it too. =D
Wow, I can't believe I hadn't heard of this, but I'm definitely participating.
I like this idea, but the puprple ribbon already has several groups. From what I found it stands for child domestic violence, prostate cancer, arthritis and colon cancer. The bullying of GLBTs could fit into it, but it wouldn't be a very stong symbol on its own. Could we add something to the ribbon to define what exactly who we are standing up for?
There are way more causes out there than there are ribbons. Like, I know that red is for AIDS treatment and prevention, and it's also to get people to not get addicted to drugs. Green is for ovarian cancer and for mental illness. But if you want people to know that you're wearing the ribbon for awareness about anti-gay bullying, maybe you can add something rainbow to it?
I'll definitely do it, and spread the word as I do :)
I am actually on that facebook group right now, weird coincidence. But yeah, I was going to do the purple ribbon thing too. Or purple underwear.
Purple is my favorite color, so I often wear purple underwear. But nobody sees it anyway. I wear a uniform to school, so a purple ribbon is pretty much the most I could do.
I've joined 3 :)

Nice. I like the shirts. "Some chicks marry chicks. Get over it." Very straightforward! <3
