Nerdfighters

I am the biggest book nerd I have ever encountered, and because of that, I don't watch very much TV, or any shows, really. I do, however, love movies.

My question is a simple one, and I open it to all the Ning! Using your best informative and persuasive arguments, I would like you to give your favorite reasons why I should watch Doctor Who. Many nerdfighters I have spoken with are obsessed, and I am beginning to look into watching them all, but I would like to make sure it's worth it before I expend any effort.

Well, first I'd like to point out that the effort required is minimal, that's the whole point of TV.

Secondly, the show itself is excellent. It is very well written with phenomenal characters, all of which are very deep and makes you feel as if they were real people. It's amazing if you enjoy sci-fi because of the creation of new species and worlds that the developers do. And there's real "science" behind everything that happens (well almost), the things that happen make sense.

And this has nothing to do with my man-crush on David Tennant...

Thank you. The effort I was referring to would come from acquiring the past episodes so I could watch from the beginning. I should have been more clear.

Someone posted this video on tumblr, it gives a good overview over the new series of Doctor Who.

Dr Who is particularly awesome because the dialog is witty and fun and the characters are playful. I love that you're constantly introduced to new scenarios, characters, worlds, and kinds of aliens so the universe in Dr. Who actually feels like it's a universe. It's consistent, interesting, funny, and if it's not funny, it will be the second time you watch it (and add your own commentary). Dr. Who is best watched with a whole bunch of friends, popcorn, in marathon form and with extra commentary. It's a good time and I would highly suggest trying it.

... there are so many reasons that you should be watching Doctor Who!!! The premise of the show has withstood the test of time, which is really quite impressive. All of the Doctors are some of the best written characters I've ever encountered. The companions are people that you can just fall in love with and get to know!! Every season there is something for everyone, even if scifi isn't your cup of tea! No matter what, you have no choice but to love Doctor Who. So, WATCH IT!!!

There is a two page special feature in the latest Guinness book of world records. 'Nuff said. (:

But seriously, if you are going to watch it, start from the first episode of the new series. I wouldn't bother with the old series, at least not until you've gotten through the new, because the new is much better. Another thing is, watch at least 3 or 4 episodes before dropping a judgment. Some episodes really aren't that great, but I love 'em just the same, lol.

Another fun thing, finding the actors that have been in Harry Potter.

Most obviously is David Tennant as the Doctor (Barty Crouch Jr.) but there have been the actors and actresses who have played people like James Potter, Narcissa Malfoy, Madam Hooch, Moaning Myrtle, and in the most recent Doctor Who episode, there was even the actor who played Dumbledore!! I'm sure there are a bunch more, just gotta keep my eyes peeled!

you could always read the books if thats more your style
you can listen to chameleon circuit, which you could do otherwise, but you'll know what they're on about :)
YES. Chameleon Circuit is great because the music is enjoyable even if you haven't watched Doctor Who. The one thing I notice about them though, Charlie sounds way different in Chameleon Circuit songs, even in the ones on his channel. In 'Blink' he has no accent at all! Odd.
I've actually listened to Chameleon Circuit, because Charlie is the man. I never get the references, but the music is good. It's also part of why I'm thinking about watching the series.
I promise, the music will seem much wittier if you've seen the show :)
