I've started re-reading the Harry Potter series to make sure that I read the sixth one before the movie comes out. I started reading the first one, and I've decided to make a thread to see if everyone else was doing this. If so, what new things are you discovering? I've read the whole series about four times, and every time I've discovered something new. What new things are you finding?

I've read the whole series about 6 times now (excluding Chamber of Secrets, which is my least favourite).
What I've noticed lately is that most of the character's names are related to some verb, noun or adjective to do with their personality. This is probably because I'm getting older, and have a better vocab now, so it may seem obvious to you/others.
Umbridge- from "umbrage"- an annoyance
Lupin- from "canine lupus" - a wolf
Gilderoy (as in Lockheart) - from "gild" - to shine gold/ false brilliance

Oh man! I had heaps more the other night, and I can't remember them now!!
Reply if you can think of any more :)

J. K. Rowling had to have been a Latin student.
Remus - founder of Rome. He and his brother Romulus were nursed by a she-wolf.
Lupin - from "lupus", Latin for wolf, I believe.
Almost all the spells are quite obvious. The literal translation of expecto patronum is "I await a protector".
A while back I thought of a lot of things like that, but I've forgotten most.

This is hilarious, because I just finished rereading the whole series too. I think this is the 15th time for #1-3, 10th time for #4, 7th time for #5, 3rd time for #6, and 2nd time for #7. lol
I've started noticing how they kind of hint at the idea of Horcruxes from the very start, and I've realized how much I really love Harry, Ron, and Hermoine.
I've realized how the 6th book is not as detailed as the 5th and 7th, and that kind of upset me.
But I've also realized how consistently good all of the books are.
And I think #7 may be my favorite, after reading it again.

I'm re-reading them too! (: But in a random order. Like, first I read the 1st one, then the 2nd, then the 6th, then the 4th, and now the 3rd. o.O

I'm rereading them too! (And by that I mean I'm going to start as soon as I can make myself get off the internet and plan on reading the first 6 in the two weeks until the movie comes out.)

I always seem to notice new things when I read them. When I reread them last year, I was noting all the times in the earlier books that characters that don't show up until the end are mentioned. Its kinda cool.

I also noticed the name thing and thought it was awesome. XD

Who else is going to the midnight showing of Half-Blood Prince?

Now that's what I should be doing right now. I'm too lazy to read them all, though, I have loads of other books that require reading for the first time, so I might just read the sixth before I go to see the film. I am clearly a terrible Harry Potter fan.

Damn that's a same, Steven Fry's are brilliant (though in fairness I haven't heard Dale's yet).

I told myself I was going to re-read them all, and did get the first one off my bookshelf... but then I realised that a) I still haven't recovered my copy of Chamber of Secrets from the friend who borrowed it and says she gave it back, and b) to do it properly I would have to read Order of the Phoenix again, and that really put me off. (Sorry, I just think it's the worst of the seven.)
