Nerdfighters

Crew. Rowing. Erging. Split. Rating. Slide. Riggers. Coxswain. Way 'nuff

Recognize these terms? If you do, you are probally a rower, like me. While its not totally unheard of, crew usually takes some explaining to people that it isn't just chillin' in a boat with some oars, that it is a disicplined sport combining teamwork and strenth.

I've tried to find something that invovles crew on Nerdfighteria and I couldn't, so I thought I'd start something. It's a great, if slightly uncommon, sport!

So, if you do row, please leave a comment about stories or your team or just saying you do it.

If you don't row, you might want to visit

just to see what crew looks like it. wikipedia it to find more if you are really interested or just leave a comment.

Some of my friends row. One of them is the coxswain. I'd never be able to do it because my school's team starts practicing at 5 am before school until 7 and they practice again after school for another 2 hours, if not more before competitions. I don't have that kind of energy! I've heard it's one hell of a workout.
Wow! My club is not that competitive at all. we just have 3 hour practices in the afternoona

My school has a varsity team and is part of a league. They're not just a club. Some of the rowers are even on year-round teams and are always training on ergs and stuff. It's really freakin competitive. But they've gone to nationals and come in at top spots in the past few years, so it seems to be worth it for them.

It's the only time I've ever heard of a team practicing before school lol.

My team trains 10 months a year. And during the two months we have off, we have "optional" practices (That aren't really optional). Although, our team's record record isn't very good. oh well, too bad you aren't into rowing. Does your friend who rows happen to be a nerdfighter?
That's a lot. My school's official mandatory season is like 3 months or so, with 2 months of additional pre-season practice with the team that is "strongly suggested". Most of the varsity rowers do train year-round, though. One of my rower friends is a Potterhead, LGBT supporter, has seen and loved 2 episodes of Doctor Who (Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead... great first episodes!), she's into writing, and she can read 2 books a week without even trying, so she might like Nerdfighteria. I think I'll suggest it to her.
I think i'll like your friend. If she ever ends up joining, tell her about me. I would really like to meet another rowing nerdfighter!
