I've never been spooked by any kind of novel. And when people say they can't bare to look at So-And-So's novel because they were scared pittiless, I don't understand.

Therefore: What was the scariest book you've ever stumbled over? I need something to rattle me so I can understand this...

And I'm just curious as to what the scary books are out there >.<;

I don't remember the name of the book, I just remember the cover had a gorilla and blood and I remember being too scared to turn the page. I was 9 though, so that may be a good reason for the intense amounts of fear I felt.

Hmm... completely understandable for the young age... I wonder if you were to happen upon the book again, and reread it, if you would be indulged to the same emotions as before or see it in a different light...

Could it have been Congo, by Michael Crichton?

The closest I've ever been to being spooked (as in horror movie) by a book was when I read Chuck Palahniuk's Rant, but a handful of dystopian novels (1984, Fahrenheit 451) have given me the creeps.

Hmm... I'll check out Chuck Palahniuk's Rant and put it on my list. I have read Fahrenheit 451 and it's an interesting concept for an alternate society. 1984 I've only heard about in passings of lists. Apparently, people consider that a scary novel as well and it's gotten me curious.

But thanks for your input :]

Speaking Palahniuk, he has another book that's a collection of creepy/gross out stories if I remember correctly called Haunted. I was tempted to pick it up since I read part of the part online, but Chuck's books are so expensive >:\ $18 dollars for a paperback version.

...for a paperback? Yikes - I'd say that's expensive...

The most frightening book I have ever read was only frightening because it actually happened. The Red Zone is a book about the ebola outbreak in the 80's. Ebola is a virus that causes severe hemorrhage in all orifices. It was transmitted to humans and the deadliest strain almost went air-born. It is an excellent book. Non-fiction, but written with all the suspense and thrill of a best-selling fiction thriller. Seriously, it was a fascinating book, but it was very frightening, in some aspects.

I once told my Latin teacher he was going to get the ebola virus from eating an orange that was on the floor. I had no idea then what the ebola virus actually did. Thank you for enlightening me. XD

Honestly, 1984 scared the shit out of me. I read it in the sixth grade and haven't been right since. Well, that's exaggerating a little bit, but I still consider it the scariest book I've ever read.
