Nerdfighters

Currently, I SHOULD be applying for scholarships but instead I'm here.
So instead of procrastinating and instead of leaving nerdfighters for the day, I figured I'd try and do both of things I need to do at once.

This thread is for all of the nerdfighters that need some help paying for college.
It's tough. I'm a senior in high school and I've been breaking down the numbers, and even though my parents have saved a lot I'm going to need a ton of financial assistance to even be able to afford to live.

Does anybody know of any scholarships I might be able to apply to? Or that any nerdfighters might be able to apply to?

And also, wouldn't it be cool to set up a nerdfighter scholarship program? Becuase I'm sure there are nerdfighters who will have more trouble than me paying for school and I don't think it's fair that ANYONE is held back because of cash, especially a nerd who spends their time decreasing world suck.

The key to paying for college is instate public universities.

As far as scholarships, check with the university to see if they have merit/need based scholarships. Also, don't forget to check the alumni association for the university, they usually give out scholarships as well. You should also look to see if your specific major/department offers merit/need based scholarships. Just because you've tapped one resource at the university doesn't mean you've hit them all.

Since I am a Chemical Engineering major at the University of Texas at Austin, I will include some scholarship links from the university for entering freshman.

I'm going to an instate public school. There was never any other option for me, luckily I live in florida where it's even cheaper and our state schools are really good.
But it's still going to be tough to pay.
I even have tuition paid for completely by a prepaid program my parents did and about 90% of tuition extra from a state scholarship program.
It's cost of living and summer semesters that are going to be tough.

I'm going to try and look more into school's programs, though.

Thanks =]
I think we could just set up a fund and split the money amongst a few different scholarships for very very different aspects of nerd. That way everyone has a good chance.
I so agree with the Nerdfighter scholarship. Someone should start a charity and do it for the Project for Awesome next year, haha.

I use fastweb.com and scholarships.com although I've been too busy with college applications to actually get around to filling any scholarships out... :/
try zinch.com it's a great site. they match whatever money you get.
GAK! i have to go out of state. I'm in a landlocked state and my major is marine science.
AAH. that sucks. Where are you looking, though?
Florida is still pretty cheap for out of state. And we've got lots of water.
Mostly North and South Carolina b/c I have family around there
Would you live with them? Having family nearby will make things cheaper for sure.
I'm an international student. Next year is going to be financial hell for my parents. Unless the gods love me and I get a bag load of merit and/or need based aid.

Good luck all. We should have a thread about acceptances and such. Maybe we'll meet a fellow nerdfighter in college or something!

This sounds like an excellent idea!

And I actually just posed the idea to a few of my Nerdfighter/Harry Potter Alliance friends about creating our own scholarship just seconds before I found this.

:o Great minds think alike!

Anyway- I've been searching, and I've found a Harry Potter Scholarship, if anyone is interested. www.cksf.org I believe is where you can find more information.
