Nerdfighters

Our English teacher, the wonderful woman she is *cough* who loves to go in depth and examine the symbolism and language in Shakespeare *cough* and certainly prefers the old movie of Romeo and Juliet to the one with Leonardo de Caprio *cough* and does not ever give us busy work nor pointless assignments *cough* has assigned us to pick five scenes from Romeo and Juliet, pick songs that represent them, and write a paragraph for each.

Can all you nerdfighters please help me find some songs? I will be eternally grateful!

Here are some basic hopefully nonspoilerific descriptions of some of the scenes.

1.(Act I, Scene II) Emotastic song about someone in love with a girl who doesn't love them back... references to locking himself in his room and crying would be good.

2. (Act II, Scene II) The balcony scene, forbidden love, romance, etc. etc.

3. (Act III, Scene I) Fight scene, people die, etc.

4. (Act IV, Scene I) Basically: I would do anything but leave you, Romeo, my love!

5. (Act IV, Scene V) Family finds a certain heroine "dead", despair, etc.

6. (Act V, Scene III) Tragic ending scene with everyone dieing/killing themselves after seeing someone else dead/people coming together after the tragedy despite their history

If you have any songs that you like and that could fit another scene of the play, please tell me the name! :)

Not to be impatient or rude, but... *bump*
*big hug*

Thank you! *is checking those songs out right now*
I wish you luck!

EDIT: if none of them strike your fancy, I can try again.
I'm definately going to use "I will follow you into the dark", that's perfect! Yays. :)

The other ones are good, but the thing is I need specific lyrics to match 3 quotes from the book. blarg. Do you have any lyric packed emotional songs?
I will follow you into the dark IS romeo and juliet.
I did this exact project when I was a freshmen! I loved it. Unfortunately I don't have the track listings anymore :( But I remember I used some My Chemical Romance in it. I think the song "Dead" was used for the scene where Mercutio dies. haha
Check yes juliet- we the kings pretty much fits the whole story... so ya.

1. All hail the heartbreaker- the spill canvas, or...I'd do anything- simple plan

2.she is- the fray or... heaven- sarah mclachlan or...I knew I loved you before I met you- Savage garden or... the world is ugly - my chemical romance

3.Mad world- gary jules or... the fight song- marylin manson xP

4. a thousand miles- vanessa carlton or... just like a star- corinne bailey ray

5. DEAD!- my chemical romance or...ghost of you- my chemical romance or...goodbye my lover- james blunt or... i miss you - simple plan or... i miss you - blink 182 [all of these would fit pretty well]

6. Faking my own suicide- relient K or... love reign over me- the who or...anyone else but you- the moldy peaches

Gosh I could probably think of a lot more, but I'm tired. This sounds like a pretty awesome project...
Ah, the good old days... I remember doing this project :)

The perfect song for the balcony scene: "Not Romeo Not Juliet" by Bryan Adams.

Lyrics: "There ain't much to the mystery--misery loves company. She just waves her hand and says, "Whatever. This ain't love, this ain't love, this ain't love at all," and he says, "We're not Romeo, not Juliet. How long does it take to fill this emptiness? We're just two lost souls, and baby we've got regrets. Don't want to say bye bye--babe, it's just you and I. We're not Romeo, not Juliet."

Shakespeare: "Deny thy father and refuse thy name; Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I'll no longer be a Capulet....Thou art thyself, though not a Montague." "Henceforth I never will be Romeo....By a name I know not how to tell thee who I am." They both abandon their names... she says it isn't love: "Dost thou love me? I know thou wilt say "Ay;" And I will take thy word. Yet, if thou swear'st, Thou mayst prove false. At lovers' perjuries, They say Jove laughs." And then they say goodnight to each other for a very long time.

I remember being very impressed that I found a song so fitting at the time. And now I pass the torch...

For the other scenes, off the top of my head:
1."Brilliant Dance" Dashboard Confessional or "Cryin" Aerosmith
2."Sea Breeze" Tyrone Wells is another good romantic song about new love...
3.hmm, fight songs are hard. "The Distance" Cake is a stretch but maybe.
4.maybe "Arms Around Me" Tyrone Wells?
5."Fire and Rain" James Taylor or "In a Graveyard" Rufus Wainwright
6."You Can't Always Get What You Want" Rolling Stones

Also, I remember using "Baba O'Riely" The Who, for the morning after their wedding night.

Good luck on your project!!
3. Everybody was Kung-Fu fighting or Mortal Kombat.

Okay, not really, but I can't think of anything else.

4. Everything I Do, I Do It For You by I think Meatloaf, but I like the cover by Clay Aiken.
I HAD TO DO THIS IN MY H. ENG CLASS FRESHMAN YEAR.

I'll give you links to the songs on youtube+the lyrics so you can go over how well suited they are.

1. Borderline by Sufjan Stevens could work, I believe. It's a beautiful song:

2. First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes is nice, BUT Sixteen, Maybe Less by Iron & Wine is a great song about unrequited love that can fit due to the fact that they had to, you know, move on. So it can work. I'll include links for both songs.

Can the song mention Romeo and Juliet?

Prepare the Masses by A Change of Pace
The song is actually about the fighting in Romeo and Juliet. I don't know if it can be related to just one scene though.
Love Song Requiem by Trading Yesterday
The romance.
Rosa Pastel by Por Belanova Here are some English translations.
