Is anyone else upset that people are comparing The Hunger Games to Twilight? The only thing they have in common is a love triangle. Bella is helpless, and Katniss is awesome. Thoughts?

Yeah. The Hunger Games is more like Battle Royale and Twilight is more like every romance-porn book ever written but for teens.

It's always fun to compare two separate series, and they're both a YA series that have the same age group as their target audience but in and of themselves they're not that similar. In practically every YA book ever written there has been some conundrum over love. It's a staple of the 'genre'. It's even worse than adult lit.

hunger games for sure, but u dont compare them. they're totally different.

Yeah. It's because they're both super popular. Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games all get compared--and guess what! All have love triangles--duh!

It's only the HG fans that have said anything xD I've not heard any twihards saying anything bout HG, and in fact a lot of twilight fans also like the hunger games! Only the media has compared them because of the hype and size of fan base. They are both separate good books and it annoys me that some fans of both books have to argue about Wich is better, cause it's all down to opinion.

Agreed. Consult http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4uuGvmAxTI for further analysis

Yes. What annoys me is the whole 'team Peeta' and 'team Gale' thing. We shouldn't be choosing between them. And you can't compare them, I've read both series, and I love them both, but I don't compare them because they're completly different. Like you guys said about Harry Potter, there's no point comparing them because they're just not the same.

I agree with you completely.

When it comes to Harry Potter, what is the love triangle? Does that refer to Harry, Ron, and Hermione? There really wasn't a love connection other than platonic friendship between Harry and Hermione...

I hate it when THG gets compared to Twilight! Twilight is all about romance and fluff and borderline obsession. THG is way more than that. Apart from the love triangle there is nothing more in common between them. And I get really irked when some people ask whether you are 'Team Peeta' or 'Team Gale'! For God's sake you can't compare them. It's utter rubbish. And as Abi said, it's the media actually  who conjures up this comparison due to the size of the fan base. :|

The love triangle is not a new concept and neither story really compels me on that front. Even The Hunger Games, which has good foundation on both sides, isn't exemplary.

Twilight and The Hunger Games really are not a good comparison.

Twilight is a story that, while having an averagely workable idea, is poorly executed. The book is poorly written, needed an Editor's fine-tuning, and was way too popular for what it was. I recall reading this in 6th grade and wondering, soon after, why everyone was in love with it. It was not that great. And there are WAY too many books.

I will say for Stephanie Meyer, that while I did not like those books, I did enjoy her book 'the host'. That was actually good in my opinion compared to this saga. It still needed some more editing, but it was solid.

The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, was a good series. I really loved the first book, especially the first time I read it but it's another one of those books that you kind of grow out of. They are good, but they aren't something that I would think would impress me if I read for the first time now. I read that in 7th grade and really enjoyed it. The other two were okay. The second one I really liked reading but the third one just made me mad. I felt that after all that tension via the love triangle, she totally butchered the ending. If you are going to have a love triangle and you are going to have the two together in the end, then you MUST MAKE IT GOOD. And the way she did it was horrible. It gave fans like myself, who are aligned with that side, not only regret how it was done, but also feel as if there is no real closure. I think that was a poor, rushed way of ending Katniss' relationships and I didn't like it.

However, I must say that if you have EVER read this series and enjoyed it, you should have read her series, "Gregor and the Overlanders." If you have and didn't enjoy than I can respect that. But if you haven't, while they are for a younger reading level, they are so good. I read those in 5th grade and they were my real reason for reading her other work.

So versus? THG wins in my mind. But for all you Twihards out there, I'd just suggest reading some well-written books, and then come back and make a true judgement of Stephanie Meyer's work.

the two shouldn't be compared. the hunger games is epic, twilight sucks. it's just that simple.

They're very different books but I love The Hunger Games. They both have a love triangle but with The Hunger Games it doesn't over take the book. Katniss is a very strong, brave woman who volunteered for her sister whereas Bella is kind of looked after by Edward and Jacob. :)
