Uglies is brilliant, as is Th1rteen R3asons Why. Crank shouldn't be written off so easily. I have not heard of many of the vampire books, so I'm not going to say any thing about. But, I do want to say:

"DIE! TWILIGHT, DIE! You are not meant for anyone, let alone my own generation."
and
"Why is Brisingr acceptable and any vampire book not so?"

Teens should only be allowed to read the following books and types of books:

The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Everything Is Illuminated/Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonothan Safran Foer
Anything by Tom Robbins. Particularly: Still Life With Woodpecker or Skinny Legs and All.

That is what I think.

EDIT - Oh, also Kurt Vonnegut books. Most of these books are not young adult literature, but I was reading The Amityville Horror when most of my friends were reading Harry Potter.

I am writing those down, except the first because I've already read it

I am glad people are still reading Still Life with a Woodpecker

Vampires are fascinating, (i would know, i have this habit of researching every strange, mythical thing there is to research) but it does get more then a little tiresome.

and it's not necessarily just a girl genre, i know a lot of guys who read Twilight and other stuff like that...only a few of them are gay...

Thirteen reasons why was a good book, as was Uglies.
But yeah its wrong that Twilight is on there more than once. And that there are like 93.315 VAMPIRE series just because of Twilight. I mean, i don't understand why they're published. None of them are that good anyway.

Because they make money. Not many people read the classics anymore, so fewer people know what good literature is like. Kind of like the film industry.

Yeah, but with the film industry I think that people are slowly beggining to realise what a good film is. I mean, there's been The Dark Knight and Slumdog Millionaire recently which were brilliant. I think it's a good direction to be going in.

irony- reading this post while in the right side bar is an ad for twilight.
as a female (admittedly a little bit older than the Young Adult audience, but not by much), i have only read one of those books that you listed. and that's Brisingr. vampires are pretty cool, i'll admit, but they were a lot cooler before they sparkled and were played by Robert Pattinson.

Ugh, I'm sick of vampire books.
My friend and I counted all of them in the YA section at Barnes and Noble...approximately 19
not including Twilight series.
And irony? there's a twilight ad on the side of this page..

That is so sad.
grrrrr. Twilight is taking over spots that other writer who aren't as successful and yet way better than Meyer are losing place. Vampire are really hot right now, and I absolutely sick of vampire romances. Vampire's used to seem cool to me, like in video games and other tv show and books and whatnot. Edward Cullen made vampires lame, and that's it. He made them so lame I refuse to dignify them with a proper insult.

I have read and love a majority of those books. I have absolutely no problem with it.
The Vampire Academy series is great.
the Nightworld and Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith are fantastic. and to be fair the Nightworld series involves Vampires, werewolves, and witches. not just vampires.
I'm a proud Twilight fan, I don't care what any of you say.
and Thirteen reasons why is fantastic and not a "girl" book btw.

Why does it matter if there are more female oriented YA books? At least they're realizing that we read too now. Not that I think it should only be books aimed towards women in the YA section- I love Darren Shan's books and I've read Vonnegut (not that he's YA, but he defintely didn't write romance). I just don't see it as something to be sad about.
