What do you guys think of Todd Akin's comment about "Legitimate rape"? As opposed to what, a fake rape? Does anyone agree with what he says? I can't believe this guy is running for public office. I honestly think that it's the stupidest thing I've ever heard someone say. I just want to know how people are reacting to it.
If you haven't heard of it yet here's a link:

Though any medical doctor with grade 10 science will know this to be false. So Eyestein propositioned that "dr" was of the wider definition.
Yes, he made the suggestion with no proof. He suggested that his misunderstanding of the female reproductive system comes from his faith. I have yet to see any proof of this.

Right... so calling you on an unfounded assertion is somehow unacceptably invasive now? Why? You keep claiming his ignorance is founded in his religious beliefs. I've yet to see any evidence supporting that conclusion.
Exactly, but this is America, some of them might, to great success, imagine that they do.
Evidence?
Most likely he lied and hadn't talked to any doctors at all...
I agree, but you seemed to continually make the assertion that he got this idea from his religious beliefs, for some unknown reason. Are you going to explain your reasoning or not.

Alright I apologize for this. That was unnecessary... But concerning that proof bit... of course I can not deliver it, it's just my gut feeling. I did not anticipate that this would turn into such a dignified discussion and quite frankly I don't believe his statement is worth any. I'm sorry you feel that I have beschmiert your entire religion, but personally I feel I've only ridiculed a certain peculiar breed of believers which incidentally seems to be taking over the Republican party.
Permalink Reply by Lori S. on September 2, 2012 at 8:18pm My understanding is that a statistic about how few rapes result in pregnancy, that has made the rounds in anti-legal abortion circles for a while, comes from a valid study done by reputable doctors. However, they were looking at the efficacy of emergency contraception in preventing pregnancy in the case of rape. When EC is administered, pregnancy does indeed very rarely occur after rape. However, it has nothing to do with a woman's body "shutting down" and everything to do with emergency contraception being taken in a timely manner. It's become routine for EC to be offered to women who seek help immediately after a rape, and that has led to a relatively low rate of pregnancy in those women.
Anti-legal abortion leaders latched onto the study, totally ignored its actual purpose and context--looking at the efficacy of EC in preventing pregnancy in rape victims--and instead just stole the conclusion (that few of the rape victims they looked at in the study became pregnant) while ignoring the context (those rape victims had taken EC). And then they used it to further a totally unsupportable narrative that somehow rape doesn't lead to pregnancy.
Permalink Reply by Eystein, on August 21, 2012 at 5:12pm Is it wrong to say it had to be a Republican? How can a, I imagine, successful guy be that stupid? How has he managed to keep that stupid mouth shut before? oO And in an election year lol!
Permalink Reply by Hutch Hogan on August 22, 2012 at 6:16am There are idiots on both sides of the party lines, telling yourself otherwise is a delusion.
Keep in mind that Fred Phelps, leader of the Westboro Baptists is a registered democrat.
But I'm quite strongly in the opinion that political parties only confuse the issues and waste time and money on partizan gameplay.

Permalink Reply by God ~blogs admin ~ on August 24, 2012 at 4:43pm You seem to have forgotten that he's attempted to run - then been rejected - by the Democratic party a bunch of times. As I said a moment ago, two hundred odd American politicians voted to ban abortions in the case of rape and incest, I'd bet me hand that the Democrats that took part in that appalling act of war against women were less than ten percent of the entire vote.
To suggest they're evenly matched in the crazy is simply wrong.

Agreed.

Depends on whether you mean the party organization, or the people voting for him. When running for Democratic Senate in 92 he still got 31% of the vote.
